just run Prolong, drain it and forget about it. It worked on the cars in the commercial.

I use the K&N filter and a straight 50 castrol racing oil. I gotta be extra carefull since I run an olds. No problems so far on the new mill. I did notice a 25 lb. drop in oil pressure with a cheapass filter. Don't do it. I'd stick with K&N. Gained 25# with the K&N!

Do not run straight weight oil. In actuality on the filter, most people do not run that many hours on their boat between oil changeds. If you frequently change your oil like every 20 hrs, then it really doesn`t matter what filter you use.

I am going to have to call Savage Marine and ask what oil they use when they service a Mercruiser. I have used them in the past, but never asked what brand of oil they use. Whatever it is I trust them, and I'm sure it meets the Mercruiser standards.
