I hear this is the company to go with to reprogram the computer in the duramax. anyone have one? and is the new "HOTBOX" and "attitude" lcd monitor nessessary? with everything they are claiming about 800 pounds of torque......wow.

Got both sittin in my office at home....they will go on along with the air box dealio and exhaust next week :D :D

STV_Keith
11-05-2003, 09:47 AM
Yep, it's a wicked little setup. I would recommend adding exhaust to it too, and perhaps the airbox (the airbox isn't mandatory like the exhaust is, but adds another 9-10hp).
I'm pretty sure we have about the best price on them in the market. Check out the site at: Diesel Dynamics (http://www.dieseldynamics.com)

what about the NEW HOTBOX upgrade? worth the extra $$$$$ ?

STV_Keith
11-05-2003, 03:19 PM
When you package the standard Juice with an attitude, you get what the old Hot box used to offer. 30-50-70-90hp is the std box, 50-70-90-125 is the hot (or a std w/attitude), and the hot w/attitude is 70-90-125-150.
Unless you plan on racing or something, I woudn't go any more than the std with attitude. EGT's are already getting up there at 125hp.

excuse the lame question.....BUT "EGT" ...is that engine exuast temp? or???????
I see on EBAY that the normal juice is in the mid 500's what can you get me the 125HP with attutiude for? and dont really want to mount the attutude on the A-piller....can you mount it somewhere where it looks nicer? What is the hot set-up on exuast system, and cold air......if it really needs it??

Yes, EGT = Exhaust Gas Temperature.

I will post pics of the Attitude install I did for SEMA. Turned out pretty trick.
Fact... at about 15mph from a dead stop, my truck comes onto boost right now with the Juice on "5" and broils the 37's. Major increase in performance, and my mileage went up as well.
I absolutely love it.

I mounted mine in the blank place in the center overhead console. I flushed it in, then mounted (hehe) it from behind with epoxy.
Turned out pretty clean. I had to have Diesel Dynamics make me a longer harness to get it to fit, but all in all it turned out really nice.
Pic to follow...

thanks Froggy! really want to see a pic, I was also thinking of mounting it down by the cigie lighter....... now with the attitude monitor you can swith from the different power settings without all the funky step through the gear selector right:confused: that way seems kinda cheezy?????? did you get the std juice plus attitude or did you get the new "HOTBOX + attitude 150HP dealio"?

I got the new hotness I believe.
We figured with the Bassani Exhaust, K&N FIPK, Edge and Attitude, I am getting around 400+ hp and 820+torque.
I am in lust with it. I towed an enclosed 24'er with the Vette and some tools, wheels and tires and jacks etc... and it didn't even sweat.
I figured it would do well, but it totally kicked ass. What the coolest thing was, was watching the EGT hit 1300 and stay there, regardless of the hill and regardless of the throttle. I just left it on level 5 and called it a day.
On another note, after driving back from Vegas with it, and towing the Vette from Anaheim today, I average 1.5 mpg better with the box and attitude.
Pics in the morn Toby... pics in the morn.

When is the Dodge version out? Looks like you dont need guages with this thing (except trans temp).
STV, when this comes out for the Dodge let me know. I'll take a trip to Vegas and hook it up.

Thanks Keith. So the Attitude is mainly a monitoring system and in-cab controller from what I have read? No guages necessary for boost and EGT? The actual power mods come from the Edge Juice right? What is the timing-duration? Is that an Edge product or DD? If I'm looking to get about the same (or more:D) power as a non-Kalifornia HO, what will I need now with the new tech that has come out since we talked last. Sorry for all the questions but a lot has changed in the past few months.
Thanks!!!
OL

From what I understand, while the attitude is just a monitoring system, because it allows you to de-fuel at a prescribed max EGT, it also allows the Juice another level of performance. Because it will monitor and adjust to an overheat condition, and the fact that in guarantees that you are aware of the temps/readings it will bump the max performance of the Juice up considerably from just the Juice with manual control.
I definitely feel a difference between the Juice on level 4 and the Attitude/Juice on level 5.

OL, the Attitude for the Duramax is interactive. The standard unit without the Attitude has adjustable power levels, but this is done through the tow/haul switch. After adding the Attitude, you get this on the unit instead of having to use the tow/haul switch. Yes, it also gives you the info of boost, pryometer, trans temp, trans slip, EGT backdown set point, trans shifting parameters, responsiveness, etc, but this is only for the Dmax at this point.
The Attitude being released for the Powerstroke 6.0 will be only a monitor and display pryo, boost, RPM and EGT backdown.
The Attitude for the 03/04 Dodges' has not been spec'd as to what it will do or display yet.
The electronic modules are built by Edge Products, distributed by DD as well as others. In the case of the newest units, DD will have a hand in the programming of these units.

A word of caution for Froggy and anyone else.1300 degrees is usually considered beyond maximum recommended EGT for a diesel. On top of that, the Duramax has aluminum heads so I'd be even more cautious. The Detroit(12.7 liter)in my commercial truck will shut off before reaching 1300 to save itself, and it has a massive intercooler and a steel head.Ford recommended the new 6.0 PS be kept under 1000 on long hills and it has steel heads.Maybe Keith will prove me wrong on this if there's something I don't know, but it seems like aluminum heads would warp after a while under that kind of heat.

I usually use an upper limit of 1250*F, pre-turbo - or as hot as it will get stock; whichever is higher.

What does the Cummins EGT run in SO form stock?
Assumimg the Dodge version of the Edge/Attitude is similar to the D-max; once I install the Edge/Attitude can I run a "non-modified" setting and monitor stock EGT before turning up the power?
Thanks,

Uh oh...
What should I set as my max in the D-max then? High Roller has me scared now...
I have it at 1300. Stock on the Attitude was 1350. What would be prudent and safe?

STV_Keith

OL, every truck is different, but the HO's will go 1400 pulling a load stock. The SO's are a little cooler (around 1100) typically.
Froggy, I'd set it at 1250, but I'm sure it will go more than that stock. 1250 is DEFINITELY safe. I have some customer that bury a 1600* gauge all the time. I don't recommend it, but people do it.

If I put it on "0" and see how high it will go, is that a good indicator of how high I should set my max?
Or does the new exhaust screw that all up?

Froggy, that's pretty much what I was thinking. I didn't know if it had a "zero" setting though. Seems logical to me. The exhaust is the big ???
What about those pix? Did you do gauges too? I wasn't too hip on loosing the A-pillar grab handle to a gauge pod so the Attitude seems like the shit. Mrs. OL would kick my ass because she would not be able to get into the truck :D

Froggy, yes. Typically, the exhaust will help by about 150-200* on the Dmax.
OL, the Dmax setup is adjustable on the fly. The unit for your Cummins, is not, but there is a "0" setting in the box.

ATS makes a cool billet deal that mounts in the overhead bin. I was looking at one of those but have kind of come to like having it mounted on the dash above the 4x4 buttons with velcro. The fact that I can glance down and see the true speed is really nice.

ROZ'S buddy at the Encinitas TWEETER "juan" does some killer fiberglass work for very good prices. haven't recieved a firm quote yet. Had a Rosen in dash DVD player (double DIN) installed a while back, but have since removed it and when back to the stock in dash 6 disc changer(that will be sweet in a future golf cart!). The aftermarket player jacked up the onstar phone system, couldn't adjust the volume. So this route should be the hot ticket!

Here are a couple of pictures of my installation on my '04 F-250. STV_Keith hooked me up and I am definitely happy with the results it has made on my truck. Normally I cruise around town on level 2 or 3 and if I want to spank some rice rockets in a stoplight battle, kick it up to 4 or 5. They will not have any idea what hit them. Kinda humbling when a big diesel truck sitting on 35" tires spanks a rice rocket in a drag race. :2purples:

I love it. It angles the unit very very well, and you don't have to strain to see it. Plus, it looks extremely trick in person. The flash doesn't do much for the polished aluminum.

Damn Tob, that's some bad luck. I know guys that have had them since 02 when they came out with no problems.
The new A2 is gonna be killer. Wireless backup camera, built in GPS, much larger, color screen, etc. They are saying March, which means August I'd guess. :hammer2:
Anything yet on the one for the 2004 1/2 - 2005 Dodge Cummins?

Ivan, I sent you a PM on RRL which you didn't read yet LOL, but actually even that info is outdated. Was just told yesterday that it wouldn't be out until after the first of the new year. :burningm:
