Story leaking out of Eliminator (CA) that they're testing a 28 Daytona w/stock Viper power, warrantee, etc at +/- 140. Can anyone confirm

Yes, I can confirm, it is a rumor.

I sure hope they were wearing a lifeline and lanyard..... :crossx:

It's probably the 28' that was at the L.A. boat show.

Daytona with twin vipors, it was only a matter of time. I heard it was a 33 Daytona... I did not hear there was a 28 Daytona as well.

I struggle to believe that anything with twin 625's is going to run that hard?
140 is f'n thundering..

I heard from a potato chip guy that if you wear a lifeline its good for another 10 mph

Someone on the boards has to have a 28' Elim running power similar to 625hp, shouldn't be too hard to guesstimate if that figure is total horse sh!t or in the ballpark.
I know on a nordic heat hull it is 17horse per mph... with all the boat peps we should be able to figure it out

Highly unlikely!! It takes almost 20hp to gain 1mph as documented in several magazine test. This means that an eliminator with 1 Ilmor would run around 110 mph. Dont think so. Plus you have to figure in the added weight and drag of another outdrive and motor.

I know on a nordic heat hull it is 17horse per mph...
SO IT TAKES 1190HP TO GO 70MPH???

I was at Eliminator prior to the show. 140 was the goal for the carbon fiber boat at the show. SUPER light lay-up. Tony thought it would get real close. Bob said maybe 135. Real cool day, perfect conditions and HUGE props and I'll bet it see's at least 135.

Wow, I just ran your speed and horsepower #s, and even though the speed range was different, the horsepower requirements were almost identical, so I think we're on to something here..........................
Your #s: 375HP = 61MPH; 625HP = 75MPH, for a 14MPH increase. 625HP - 375HP = 250HP -: 14MPH = 17.8HP per MPH
My #s: 550(propshaft)HP = 76MPH; 700HP = 85MPH, for a 9MPH increase. 700HP - 550HP = 150HP -: 9MPH = 16.7HP per MPH
Actually, my HP #s are an educated estimate, based stock horsepower and modifications, since I've never dynoed my motor. If I correlate my #s against yours (1 MPH increase requires 17.8HP), I'm actually making 735 bobtail/710 propshaft HP. Anyway, there are lot's of variables (load, weather, etc), but I think we are very close to determining that it takes approximately 17HP to increase the speed of a 28' Heat 1 MPH.
Pulled this off offshore only....

Tony told me they were hoping to hit 130mph. That was before it was built. I haven't heard any numbers on it yet.

I USED to work at a well known high performance boat part manufacture
late last year one of the boat builders brought us a boat with twin viper motors do do some mock up parts....
just my input use that info as you will

just for a point of reference...
my buddies 2002 28 lp (no canopies) with twin 500 efi with prochargers (can't imagine more than 5lbs boost), b1 on standoffs, would run right at 125 on gps...i think spinning 4 blade 32p. don't know the ratio
same boat with the "stock" 500 efi would run around 105 mph. different props..motors grenaded so he put them back to n/a....
rode with bob leach at elsinore in a canopied 28 with twin 525 vipers last year...just clicking 120 mph..
both these boats ran like they were on rails...
140 with the 625's would be a nice feat....

I heard a similar rumor, but it wasn't an Eliminator Daytona, it was a DCB.
...... and it wasn't twin Viper engines, it was twin 300x outboards.
F'n thing hauled ass.

With all the input from some of you, this rumor is put to rest. Take one very fast hull; a Daytona 28, add carbon fiber, raised X-dimension, IMCO SC drives, Hering propellers, 56/5700 rpm's and its very doable and a warrantee to boot. Doesn't get any better than that
