I was 19 when I got my first boat. It was a 16' Caddo, gold metal-flake and white. Rated for a 90hp weed whacker but I had a 150 on it.
Porpoised like hell but it would yank up 4 slalom skiers! That was in 1979. I would imagine it is in boat heaven by now, or sitting on blocks behind some rednecks trailer! :D

I was 21. It was a Panther Marine 18' jet. Rigged terrible, stuff was always coming loose and falling apart.

I was 22 when I got first boat. It was a 19' Mirage with a 460 Ford and a Panther jet. When I was a kid I dreamed of owning a hot boat with big block Ford and a set of Basset headers hangin out the back. Thats exactly what my first boat had. After a couple of seasons I figured out it wasn't too practical for the boat chop in Havasu, so I traded it in on a brand new Essex.

I grew up with my folks speed boats.
The first boat I had of my own was a 13 ft fiberglass kayak I made from a mold when I was 13. I still have it, even though many have offered to buy it from me.
The first power boat I have owned is the 19ft eliminator sprint I currently have. I got it last year, when I was only 44.

I was 23 when I got my first boat. It was a 26' Sleekcraft Executive with a Harman 440HP 454 and a Berkeley Jet. I picked it up in Santa Fe Springs at the factory, and pulled it back to Houston where I lived at the time.

Not :D counting my dad's boat, I was 25 or so when I bought my first boat.*
It was a 16' 1971 Marlin open bow tri-hull. Power (if it could be called that) was gingerly applied by an 85 horse chrysler 3 cylinder.
Very cool green metalflake, and the back to back seats that could fold down into lounges.
I spent two glorious years in that boat cruising all over Havasu at it's top speed of 26 MPH.
* technically, my first boat was a Coleman 2 man inflatable from Costco, but I presume the question was directed at powerboats.

Technically (following your example) my first boat was a Sevylor 4 man raft with a 3.5 HP Chrysler outboard. I was 23... and I think it qualified as a power boat, it had to have registration numbers.
Otherwise my first REAL boat was a Marlin 16' Open Bow with a Mercruiser 4 banger/alpha drive. I think I was like 32 when I got that in 1987. Then two years later i got the Marlin Cobra (Carrera knock off) with the 350 King Cobra drive and had it for 12 years. I kept that for a year after I bought the 30' Eliminator w/twins when I was 45 in 2000 and sold the Eliminator this year. I bought the Ultra 21 LX this year to get back to the Low Profile open bow lake boat. It is the perfect size for Folsom Lake. The Eliminator was an awesome boat, but it was just too big, too costly and just over the top. Wife hated it too.

SWEET!
I was driving my dad's dock beater 14' starcraft fishing boat with a 9,8 merc as soon as I could start it. 11 or 12yo
When I was 14 I de-tasled corn and took ever penny and built a boat just about like yours. Ran an old 10hp merc that the guy next door donated. It ws the old old 10 with no reverse or netural and the tank on top. We tried a newer 20hp merc and it was not much faster.
When I was 17 I found an old class C hydro with the old 45hp quickie and all and ran that for a few years. That boat is still in my dad's shed but the engine is long gone. To bad as I bet it's worth some bucks now. Heck, I bet that old herrican 10 is worth some money too.
I moved to CA when I was 21 and before I turned 22 I was the proud owner of a '73 hondo runner bottom.

I can't remember. But it was not a mini max. I was a little 8' runnabout and it was almost all rocker. lol The bow can to a sharp point. Had a cut out in the front for a gas tank but mine was on top of the engine. I could drive it in the roughest of water and get huge air. I did flip it a few times.
Sadly I do not have any pics of it. I have always regretted not getting pics but never thought of it back then. I guess that's why I take pics of EVERY little thing these days.
But I did find the registration last night. I'll try to scan it one of these days just for grins.

I think a better question would be: How old will I have to be, until I'm happy with what I've got, and don't want a new boat ?

Drivin Dads 16' Schiada Flat with Merc outboard at 7yrs old. Bought it from him at 17. Hit submerged rock and killed it at 18. Bought new Bayliner 1800 Cobra at 19 (thought the Blue metal flake was cool). 22' Crownline at 33, now Lavey Craft. I think I'll keep this one a while.

I was 28,bought a brand new 1988 17' Seaswirl Tempo open bow with the "big" V6 4.3 2 barrel, 46mph. Almost picked the teal color, switched to dark blue at last minute. Hung a 390cfm holley and intake and stainless prop and got 52 smokin' mph! I think that boat is what caused me to need back surgery, it would pound the shit out of you!
