I got Direct TV. last week. I find the quality much higher then digital cable. DDUUUUHHH!!!!! Better on screen navigation, features etc. Can't wait for HD. Which do you prefer and why? Also, I loved the look on the Cable guys face when I cancelled my Cable, and turned in my cable boxes.

Cable, cuz when shit breaks or goes wrong, you get replacements for free. I have digital cable.......

Both, cable throughout the house and Satellite in some of the rooms. Helps with the picture in picture with more than one tuner in the TV.

Cable Modem VS DSL, I take the cable modem once it is available here. Not 100% happy with DSL. I guess this would be a different disccusion, figured worth mention.

We love our DirecTV. We have two boxes here at the house, and we took our third down to our place in Havasu. Saves on having to pay more than one cable bill, and we get to watch the local LA channels while in Havasu which is nice. Looking into getting Tivo. It looks like it's pretty cool. Anyone have one? What do you think?

I remember a couple of years ago, i tried to eliminate some of the premium movie packages from my cable, and the dildo on the other end of the phone told me that i'd be paying more if I did that! WTF! What a bunch of CRAP!!! Cables a frickin ripoff. And Kilrtoy, how often does the equipment break anyway? Never.

They both are a rip off,
My shit hasent broke, but im always upgrading shit when they do and its free.
But our wires got messsed up outside , they fixed that for free.
Cable over DSL
OH MY GOD BIG DIFFERENCE...
I have cable modem....smoking fast , all over dsl

It is nice to be able to take the dish and/ or tuners anywhere you want. And it's nice to be able to utilize the same coaxial cable. I've heard Tivo kinda sucks sometimes because it doesn't take into account any real-time programming changes. But nothings perfect. Tivo is VCR PLUS on steroids. just my $.02:cool:

TIVO is a cool system, dish did the right thing teaming up with them. Cable has a box available in some markets with a TIVO type system. Two hard-drives and pic-in-pic built in. The box cost so much right now, cable companies are not jumping in to buy them.

Yeah I have heard some of the same things about Tivo. The ability to pause Live TV sounded pretty cool. I guess it's just another toy to add to the collection! Thanks for the info LASERRAY.

I have had both Direct TV and Cable over the years. If you are talking about analog cable vs. Direct, you are right. I have had digital cable for the last 3 years and prefer it to Direct w/o question. Much better guide and local channels right where they belong.

DirecTV rules! and so does NFL Sunday Ticket!
The coolest part is you can take your box (and a spare dish of course) to the river with you so you don't miss any UFCs or pay per view events.
uh, or porn if you like...

I couldn't justify spending the $ for Sunday Ticket.

DirecTV is the way to go. We have 7 receivers and portability is the key! Local channels wherever you go! NFL Sunday Ticket wherever you go. Can cable offer that? Absolute fantastic picture. Way too many channels to actually watch so there is always something to see.
Cable TV is outta my life!

Cool, good timing with this thread as I am debating this issue at the moment.
I have analogue cable and an HDTV setup I've had since 2000, I use an antenna to receive HD programming. High Definition content is the thing that will determine which way I go and it looks like Direct has a big advantage here, I don't watch too many movies so couldn't care less about HBO and Showtime HD but ESPN HD, Discovery HD and HDNet are also offered in the line up and cable has none of these.
All of the networks (and a few others) broadcast in HD and it is all OTA and free so I watch all of the prime time stuff this way.
My understanding is that I will need a triple LNB dish to receive the HD feed, I already have a Panasonic Satellite/HD receiver as that is the unit I bought originally. Does anyone subscribe to the HD programming from Direct? I'd be interested in what you think.
If you subscribe to the NFL package then the "big game" each week on CBS will also be in HD, a new deal worked out this year.
I have had Replay TV which is the other version of TiVo for several years and love it, no subscription, updates each night, never had a missed recording and the pause function is a must have for those trips to the beer fridge during a game.
Interested to hear any thoughts on the HD thing. Also looking at Plasma screens now, big difference in picture quality between makes, must support 480p through 1080i, somewhere in the 40" to 50" range, any suggestions.
