A number on months back Trailer Boats Magazine conducted a towing test with an H 2. They did not give it the highest marks. Not suprised. Primarily a weight issue.
That 325 HP fades fast when the unladden weight is about 7,000 pounds. Not enough get up, plus tall tires, etc.
I cannot understand why GM does not put the diesel in the H 2. And does not have plans to.

Is that the step beyond "towing with a woody"?

No disappointment here
The wife wanted one, with the chrome package. I said sure let me sell the boat and get 1 jet ski. She said why I, I said that is all it can tow.
So she opted for a womans truck instead....

The same reason they can't put them in Tahoe's and Burbs, the Alison tranny is to big.

Had a white one with the chrome package and 15000 miles, sold for $42000, liked it but they are depreciating about $250 a week. I'm hoping they come out with a diesel eventually, the bottom will fall out of the gas ones then...

Diesel Tahoe's are rare but not Suburban's, 7 have gone through ebay in the last 2 weeks, but only a couple of Tahoe's, I was considering one when looking for a tow vehicle but not wanting anything too big, Manuel

What?! You're telling me you can get a diesel Suburban from Chevy?! That's the first I've ever heard of that. You sure you're not talking about customized Subs with diesels jammed in them?

Cut the bullshit and get a diesel Excursion, my friends. It is nothing short of awesome with the 6.0L and five speed +OD tranny. Not only does it tow with no problemo, it also gets 16 +mpg in daily driving. Oh, and 525 ft lbs torque. Yeah, it'll tow something.
The H2 is nothing but a posermobile. Just say no!! :D :D

or you could get one of these!!! '04 Dodge ram srt-10. 500hp 525tq. 6 speed tranny. 4.10 rear end. oh yeah and GAS powered. v-10 viper engine. I bet this one will pull, and haul ass too. 0-60 in 5.2 top speed 150+ mph. not bad for a pickup truck. Just throwing some options out there.

I'll be willing to bet that this truck will not be set up to tow much of anything. Sure it has the power and torque but it's not a towing machine like a diesel or even other trucks set up for pulling big loads :D

Those H2's are just a Tahoe frame with a big ugly box put on it.
Sorry but I just don't get the H2's.
They look like a Brinks truck I think.

Yep, you can, but only in the 2500 3/4 ton series. I didn't know they offer them in the Tahoes, but I its true, you can get one in a Suburban. But if price is of importance, you can get a HD 2500 with the Diesel cheaper if I'm not mistaken.

I just ordered a new chevy 2500 HD with the Duramax a few weeks ago. I inquired about a diesel Suburban and they said you COULD NOT get it.

BTW: The picture above with the H-2 is towing Dragon's new V. It has a very light lay up, which still probably exceeds the H-2's rating, so I don't know if that is a good example.

Roln, your not wrong too often but you are way wrong here. G.M. doesn't make a Diesel Suburban in the newer 1998 > body style and that goes for Tahoe's also. The reason being the size of the Alison tranny and it will require a new body style for the Burb's and that won't be for a couple years. There might be someone out there doing it aftermarket but I don't no who.
The Excursion = extint in 04' The tranny on the Ford's have always been the weak link.

I was told by Ford last month that the plan to stop making the Excursion in 04 has been put on hold.
I would not buy one, but they will still be available.

It has been reported that the Surburban will be available with a diesel next year.
I have heard from little birds at a stretch of asphalt in the middle of the desert ouside Phoenix that the H2 will have a Diesel a year after the Burbs get it.
2006 H2 Diesel probably available in mid 2005.

Uh, if you wanted to go zero to 60 in less than 8 seconds, haul your 8,000 lb boat at 90 MPH, load up 20 sheets of 4 X 8 plywood, take your wife and six friends out partying while looking good at the valet parking stand, go 700 miles between fillups....

I've had 8 people in the cab of my old crew cab. Not the most comfortable thing, but it can be done... :D
Besides, I don't think your wife would be happy when you pulled up with 20 sheets of plywood in her $50,000 suv. ;)
Besides, I heard plywood is hard on the leather.

Last I heard the plan to kill the Excretion is still in place but it was extended until the vehicle that will replace it is available.
What will replace the Excretion? Why an extended Expedition, of course! (Yes, it's true)

Roln 20s
Yes, you can get the 8.1L in the 'Burb/Yukon XL.
As for the Duramax/Allison tranny combo in the Suburban, that probably won't (can't) happen until GM re-designs those vehicles (which is happening soon - don't remember exactly what year but it should be a year or two). During the re-design they'll probably make sure to design for the Duramax/Allison combo.
Warning: Do NOT buy the first year model of ANY vehicle made by ANY manufacturer. The money you throw away will be your own.
