First off I am a GM guy and never liked Dodge but the quad cab Ram isn't bad looking and the price is right. Anyone have anything to say about them positive or negative? I would be looking at the half ton hemi. Thanks

I just bought one. It's a nice truck and that little hemi runs strong. I'm still grinning when I drive it.

Had a 96 Club Cab (didn't make Quad Cabs then) 1500 w the 5.9, traded it in w 80k miles on it, never any problems, now have an '01 Quad Cab 2500 w the Cummins w/30k miles on it, never had one problem at all.
Great products, I reckon.
Just wish I had waited 2 yrs for the newer body stylke and maybe 4 full sized doors...
I can't give you any feedback on the Hemi motor, but I would have no reservations at all about making it 3 Dodges in a row for myself. I like the diesels. Cheaper than shit to operate, pulls like a real truck should...
Thanks

We bought our 4x4 QC Diesel in July and have been very happy. Check the Tow Rig archives for tons of stuff about the trucks.
I agree on the best bang for the buck.

I have a 2001 Ram 2500SLT. 75,000 miles and not one problem. I'd go with the diesel, cheaper to operate and tons of power and 4X4. I traded from a 1500 with a 360 that got 12 miles a gallon. The diesel gets 20 on the highway.

I had a 98 quad cab and it was a POS!! 10 mpg at best with a 318 v 8 and I had major problems. The bottom end left the building when ithit 39,000 miles. I had an issue from 12,000 miles and took it back numerous times, until I bitched so much someone finally found a problem. even with that DODGE didne help me and did not stand behind their product when the chips were down. I have to invest 3000.00 to jet get rid of it, because it was past 36,000 miles. I felt they strung the problem along till milage was up and then to bad for me. I drive a toyota tundra now and love the truck just wish it was bigger inside, but the motor is flawless and ride is way more superior and so is interior noise more quiet. Not all storys end like mine but thats what happened to me. Ask questions and find out what the 7 / 70 coverage really covers before you buy. Good luck.

we are Dodge peep's. four dodge trucks in the family right now.
they are a good buy for the money.
However i caution you on the Hemi and ours may have been an isolated incident. we went from a 2000 1 ton cummins dually to a 2002 3/4 ton hemi. here in the flat country of Texas it did ok even pulling the 6800lb. t/t. on our trip to sd, co, & wym it was a totally differnt story. the hemi' torque and short power band ended up damaging the drive train and it only averaged 9 miles per gallon.we were VERY disappointed. we even had it flashed to the highest program and added a k/n filter.
so as many trucks as we purchase and peep's we've referred, they put us into a 2004 one ton dually with the h/o cummins for
$ 10 more a month.
my wife buys and pays the truck notes so she had made the deal. on our trip i had her drive & pull the trailer. the hemi worked her over, so as long as we pull anything of any size we will stay with the diesel, plus it gets 14 mpg and the h/o has plenty of power.

We have a 2002 1500 4x4. It's been a good truck. Gas milage sucks but you can't have everything..

Just got a '03 5.9 and I love it.......didn't have enough power (you can't get a HO with an auto in Calif.) so I did the "chip" and an exhaust system, also a Gear splitter. The truck runs GREAT! 24 mpg @75mph!!!!!:)

well, i work for dodge and drive a ford f250. so i think that says it all. the cab space in the dodge was a huge dissapointment. i've worked for chrysler for 12yrs now and wont go back to a dodge til they have a true crewcab. the cummins is a strong runner but i do have to say im very impressed by the new 6litre ford. im lifted with 37" bfg's and i can pull my 25' daytona easily. interior is very roomy and i just cant say enough. in dodge's favor though i have a complaint as a parts guy but a credit to the customers. these newer products arent breaking like they used to:yuk: i'm going broke here. the product has gotten alot better over the past 3yrs. which is great for the customer but bad for those who depend on those repair jobs:mad:

they say "4 full size doors" LOL.
Yeah, good one!
Too bad Dodge did not make it "4 full size seats"
Good luck riding in the back seat if you are above average size.......
To me, its the same as a Chevy....the extended cab is a waste if you need to transport more than 2 peeps.

The big complaint I hear from friends is the weak transmission with the gas models.
Seems to be a common failure if ya tow.

I Test drove an '04 Dodge Dually, 32 valve Cummings diesel, HO Transmission, and a 4x4 to boot. I really liked it compared to the Duramax, and Powerstroke. I'm not saying go out and buy one, that's just my opinion.

I test drove the Dodge before I decided to buy a Chev DMax. The Hemi was strong, but as said before, there is NO room in the back mini seat. I would say similar is size to the Chev extended cab. The 1500 Dodge had a good ride, but the 2500 HD Dodge drive really hard. The Chev ride was far superior. The Chev was priced higher than the Dodge, so the Dodge wins there.

I don't think that there is a truck made that is perfect in every way, It all depends on what you want and what you're willing to do without. I liked the dodge 3500 cummings because I think that it possess what I want in a truck. I currently drive a '95 2500 Silverado extracab. I bought used in '96 with low miles and it now still has less than 93,000 miles on it. If it wasn't so underpowered (5.7 V8), and have such a small fuell tank 22 or 23 Gal, i'd keep it. But I use it for towing and it's not cut out for it.

Pleasant Cat is right about the quality. My bro-in-law had a 95 1500 Dodge that was a POS. Went thru brakes every 5-10k and a few other minor probs. Our 2001 Durango went 35k on the original brakes. For mountain driving that is impressive.
AS far as the cab size there is no dispute that the Dodge is small. But it just depends on what you want. We like it because our kids are the only ones that use it and its perfect for them. The advantage to the small cab is the truck is about 18" shorter than the Ford or Chevy. My wife likes the smaller truck and parking it is much easier. You can also park them in just about any garage unlike the other two.

I bought a Dodge Ram New in 1994 which was the first year of the re-design. I couldn't keep the front end allinged and I went through brakes like I go thru beer. So I got rid of it in '96 and went Chevy. I loved that DODGE anyway.
