Starting to plan vacation this year, have been to Havasu the last 3 years, thinking of trying something new, Lake Powell is a possibility. Where do you stay when you are there, we have stayed at Crazy Horse in Havasu and really like it, is there any place to hang out at Powell like the sandbar or channel, sandy beaches, or other places to hang out? If not as fun as Havasu then we would just go back to Havasu.
Any input would be appreciated,
Pictures would be very helpful
Thanks in advance

Rent a houseboat in Page, tow the "grocery getter"
The lake is absolutely huge, check out their website.
Never have had a bad time up there.

They are different beasts.... Havi is Havi... Powell is much more family oriented, although we have hooked up with some pretty cool peeps out there.
if you want to be guaranteed a drunken sleezefest - stick with Havi... No, not slamming Havi.. I go there and participate also! :rollside:
But we do Powell every year also!

Havasu is a pond compared to Powell. There is an RV campground at Wahweap where you can camp and launch. There is a hotel at the Wahweap Marina with restaurant, coffee bar, etc... There are many decent hotels in Page (about a 15 minute drive from the marina). Plan on launching early and take plenty of gas. There is much more to see at Powell, and you can easily get lost on the lake if it's your first time out there. The farther you venture out, the better it gets. You can barbecue on the lake, camp out over night, or come back in and eat at a restaurant and stay in a hotel. Houseboats are the best way to stay self-contained and see the most, but they can get expensive (unless you travel w/ a large group of friends) and require reservations at least a year in advance. There are several Marina's, however, Wahweap is the closest to So.Cal.
