I paid 6k for my flat and I put another 5k in repairs this year. I figured that wasn't bad since the last it was totally gone through was in 1980.
*note: I'm not gonna even add in the amount of fuel used

Bought a new ski boat 9 years ago. Beats the hell out of them now.
It was under 25,000 buckaroos.

I try not ot lurk but its hard with some of the hot wives. But seriosly I only spent $1000 for a '78 hawaiian 26 foot offshore that had been submerged. I hope to spend aboat another $4000 to get her on a trailer and the fiberglass repaired. Then if it stays afloat I can spend $$$ on trying to make HP next winter?

Think about it. When you add up the cost of the boat, finance charges, hotels or second river home, gas for the boat AND tow vehicle, repairs to the boat AND tow vehicle, accesories like rope-bouys-anchors-ski's wakeboards, coolers, beverages and food, life vests, time off work that you could be making money, registrations/insurance, tickets etc, this is a very expensive recreational activity no matter what you paid for your boat. Multiply that by the years you boat and you could own some nice property in Maui or Fifth Avenue
But it sure is fun, and in my case, a necessary component of my life:D :D

That brings up more costs that can be attributed to boating. I have a gardener and houskeeper. I pay to get cars and my boat fixed. All these costs and more are because I like to have fun. If I choose to save money and do all or most of these "chores" myself, then that takes away from my river time:(
Didn't mean to hijack the thread. I guess my point is boating is way expensive no matter what your boat costs

clownpuncher, i agree with ya 100%. it's been a while since i really thuought about how much it cost to have this as a hobby. DAMN IT COST A LOT DOUGH!!!!! but the way i see it, there's no point in working all of the hours that i do if i can't enjoy the money i make. now let's see some more hot boats :D

Hey Kilr....try the sand toys they are getting WAY outta hand too! The only other hobby I know of that is more expensive than boating is off-road racing. There is absolutely no money in that sport yet the trophy truck guys are spending $300,000-$400,000 just to build the trucks and then another $1,000,000 to run the SCORE off road series. Not to mention they have to totally rebuild the trucks after every race. The worst part is when you win you only get about $5000 in winnings which doesn't even cover the costs to to prep the truck. If you have ever ridden or driven in one of these truck you would know why these guys do it, its totally addicting and a HUGE adrenaline rush. You are going about 100 mph across the desert and through 4 foot whoop-de-doo's its insane.
Sorry to hijack the thread :D

That is crazy shit, But im not boat racing either.
That truck stuff is awesome, but again. I would only buy what I could afford, so I would be going 50 MPH over 1 foot whoops....

Paid $6300 for the boat. Have put another $15000 into it over the years. The initial purchase price becomes less relevant the longer you keep the boat.
