View Full Version : Mad Cow Disease....

Read a nasty article in the paper today about it.
I read that just the micro fine dust given off by the packing plant's band saw blade as it cuts through the spinal cord can infect the rest of the beef as it is butchered.
It may be the cause of Alzheimers in humans. It may not show up in humans for 4 to 10 years after you are exposed.....
The cows are killed by slamming a four inch bolt onto their heads at 200 miles an hour, but the same bolt plug is used for many, many cows, spreading the disease.....
The nervous tissue, the usually infected area, is found in approximately 35% of hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage, taco meat and pizza toppings....
For every cow that is tested 1700 are not. Infected cows can take years before they show visible signs of infection.
Dried cow and pig blood is added to their feed to provide additional protein.
I'm not saying I believe everything I read in the paper, but I don't believe every thing Uncle Sam says either......
UH, please pass the chicken.......

It's a fact that one in a million cows contract BSE naturally. How many cows in the US and Canada?
Canada supplies something like 17% of beef consumed by the US.
I sure hope that the Canadian and US governing bodies can work something out to keep the borders open to each others beef products or we're all in trouble. Canadian beef producers have lost over 1.9 BILLION dollars since 1 case of BSE was discovered in Canada. I sincerly hope that US beef producers don't end up in the same boat.

But but dude, don't you remember the Southpark Movie...with Blame Canada as the theme????
The real problem was the "by products" being used to enrich feed and spreading the disease. I'd bet there will be a few more cases, but eventually it will stop spreading and go away for the most part...
