(and a lot of luck)
Notice the beautiful scenery...

If you're Joey "The Drive Destructor"...you have lots of time to look at the scenery.

Good thing it had external steering on it otherwise it would have gone to the bottom of the lake

HOLY CRAP! Makes me glad I only have stock power.
I'm thinking u-joint also.

From what I understand....the drive seized up, and the U-joint came apart. Luckily, the gimbal bearing stayed on the driveshaft....and limited the water coming in.
I'll let GRASS PAY$ chime in on his "top secret" HP. I will say that it sure looks like the new 10-71 is working, though.
Either it was :
A. Too much HP
B. Bad setup
C. Loose nut on the steering wheel
D. All of the above
If you're gonna get towed...
http://www.highperformancecars.com/hhangin/camera045.jpg
...I guess there are worse tow vehicles.

Was this the same boat that was tearing up the lake around New Years? If so, the motor sounded pretty darn impressive. And the driver definitely wasn't babying it!

Makes me want to go out and hug my drive and tell it that I promise to drive nice from now on:D.

I had a similar thing happen about 6 months after I bought my boat 2 years ago.

It turned out the previous owner did not recently have ANY service done to the U-Joints as he told me at the time of sale. The The Drive Destructor's damage looks WAY worse than mine! that really makes me wonder how strong that IMCO drive is???

No drive is safe from the Drive Destructor! He reminded me on the phone that he once went through two drives in one weekend...a feat that most mere mortals could not dare accomplish.
The "Indestructable" Forton drive? Not after Joey got a hold of it.
WW...I'm not even sure a #6 would hold up...remember, he is a trained professional.

Yes there it is and it floats... I think I get the same gas mileage towing as I do at full speed. I think I have equal hour doing both thanks to JOEY!

If you hang around Joey...you'll get alot of hours on your tow tope.
Are the zip-ties evenly spaced on that tow rope?

That looks alot like gimbal and ujoint on the port drive on "Mr Bigs" 29' mach, but his outdrive was ok. I think it was determined to be a bad ujoint that caused the destruction on his.

I think I'm gonna go and service my drive.
Ouch.

These pics look all too familiar...hmmm Actually My drive looked worse! The gimbal was all but GONE and when you went to raise the trim on the motor it just pushed the outdrive AWAY from the boat instead of up...I guess thats what happens when you remove the pivoting point(Gimbal). HH , I'll see if I have any pictures of mine...I'll be calling Dave today to research why Joey's looks as if it had EXACTLY the same problem as mine hmmm:frown:

that's a torn ear on a drive yoke. not a u joint.
are these chromo shafts you guys are using-? they should be.
what size is the joint-? looks pretty small to me. maybe a 1310.
if this is a common failure for high-end drives, they need to beef
up their components a bit. check into the 4x4 rockcrawling
world for new ujoints..........
or go straight to the source:
Jack at CTM Racing........
but you guys might not like the "service-factor" of the new CTM
joints....... no roller bearings, rather they are using bushings.
these joints have changed the hardcore rockcrawling world by
almost being indestructable.......

good lord.... that guy is crazy.....
Does anyone know if the IMCO extreme (?) uses the XR driveshafts? or the smaller B1's?
I dunno?

Like the saying goes " Its only as strong as its weakest link" in this case those yolks look to be the weak link, so does anyone know who is the OEM of the shaft/yolk in question?

gnarley,
I was looking into this last month and it seems that some "built" drives use OEM driveshafts. They go on to say that "driveshafts" don't often break.
O.K., tell it to this poor guy.
so I wonder which drive shaft was in this one.

Make sure you stop by the DCB booth at the boat show and ask the drunk guys working there why the drive is missing on the FX-28.

Thanks for all the love on the boat.... I am just glad a DCB took care of it own... I am really happy with how it came out.... I think it is pretty different, until the show and everyone copies it

Since plastic is buoyant, if you put enough zip-ties on anything...it'll float.

I was kind of expecting the tow rope in the picture to either be a huge zip tie or a powder coated rope with a laser etched DCB logo on it.
