My father n law just gave me a 1979...(titled a 1998) 24 foor schiada, It has a new zeiman triple axle trailer, 502 on nitrous, silent choice exhaust, motor has under 6 hours on it. the boat has new interior and has been repainted to the modern colors of now...white with yellow and purple and magenta stripes
What is it worth?...I found 21 footers in the boat trader for 21k
I would be happy to get 15k
any info would be helpful

The cheapest I ever saw one of their models 21 ft or over sell for was a 1989 21 footer with a big Erude O.B. The owner was asking $8900 and I think it went in about 1 day.

There are also 21 foot Schiadas that are 15 years old for 40-60K. That boat may be worth a lot more than that, but if you only want 15K, you have an offer above from coolchange- and I don't think he's kidding. Shall we say SOLD!
Call Lee at Schiada-he'll let you know.

the boat brokers in Lake Havasu (www.theboatbrokers.com) have a 1995 24' Schiada listed for $49,995.
A couple things your should know:
1) Schiada has a GREAT name
2) they build very few boats, so the value is high as in the demand
3) they are built very well- maybe some of the best build boats period.
4) if taken care of, they can be worth bank
Questions-
Is this a V-Drive or Sterndrive?
If its a 1979- what does 1998 have to do with it--was that when the boat was redone?

Sounds like it's worth 15K.
Coolchange will give it a proper home that for sure.
I paided about that for my 20' schiada when I got it. It had a 468" twin turbo engine in it too.

my understanding is that the boat was built for peterson engineering for the long beach catalina ski race, the boat was never titled or regsitered, In 1998 it was stripped down to the hull and redone by my father n law, when he took it to the dmv, they gave him a clear title for a 1998 schiada..I would keep it but all of our friends have places in blythe. to shallow for this boat

This is registering pretty high on my BullShitOMeter, the 98mph did it for me.

One never know for sure;) . I paid 7K for my 24 spectra with only 400hrs on it :D .It came with all original equipment [LS-6 , C-72 B/W tranny , V-drive and the original Vance tandem trailer] The gelcoat was chalked as you expected , the interior is still original and great shape. I've reconfigured the cockpit layout to two buckets seats and a bench with sunpad. My friend had a 22 schiada in the seventies and they were [spectra/schiada] pretty comparable in quality then. So start bidding on it guys ,before this bloke changes his mind ;)

OK so I talked to the guy and it seems to be on the up and up.
But its not the standard big 24 cruiser. Seems to be one of those hybrids that came out of Shiada. He says it was layed up out of a 27 and shortened in the mold. Has a really looong deck on it. Looks to me like a 21 cockpit on a big hull. Alpha drive and he says a trans of some kind. Not what I thought it was but he says he is testing the waters so to speak. Says all paperwork is in order. If someone wantede a totally unique boat I'd look into this.

If it's the same bottom as the newer 24's then it's a rough water
killer. Those things are real tall, take a good deal of horsepower
to push but are great riding and fun to drive. The v-drive ones
really need the juice. I'm wondering about the logic of an alpha
drive going 98 mph. That could be a problem that you don't want
to encounter at 98 mph in any boat.
I saw one that we sold about 5 years ago that was one of the
first 24's that Schiada built. I thought it was a 1988 year model?
Maybe I'm wrong.
I think it's a nice boat regardless of what year it is. Getting it
financed ( as always) could be a trick but nice boat! If you need
any help selling it, I know some folks right now today that would
probably offer you a decent price. call me!

I just spoke with my father in law and he said it has 502 Engine with a Velvet drive, Mercury TRS Out drive.(whatever that is??)

coolchange
02-04-2004, 05:52 PM
Ya on my way home I got to thinkin he didn't really say it had a Alpha, he thought it might be. Then I thought "a tranny on a Alpha?" Might be a TRS! A forward lookin visionary ( such as myself) would take that to someone :D and cut about a 6'x7' hole in the deck and make a bow rider out of it. Crawl through only please, save the lines of the boat.:D

I'd say thats more like trade-in or wholesale value. My boat booked out to $5,700-6,800. I'd say it would go for $12-15k in the real world.

#1 ... he's giving you this boat so you can sell it...
#2 ....he think's he's passing his boat on to his favorite son in law to keep and take care of ?
if it's #1 that's cool ...
if it's number 2 and your goin' to sell it that's cold....(his daughter can't be that bad..... could she?)

He knows I am going to sell it, and he is ok with that, He is retired and no longer has a vehicle that can tow it, he got rid of his truck and bought a corvette. we agread that I would sell my jet boat and use the money from his boat to buy my family a new boat.

This is the "cold" daughter. My dad does not use the boat anymore. We have a old small jetboat with a shallow hull, but we now have 3 Kids (11yrs, 3yrs, and 2yrs) and I don't feel comfortable putting them in our jetboat. My dad's has a prop and where we go (blythe) it's to shallow, SO he told me to sell his and trade ours in for something SAFE for HIS GRANDKIDS.

I know it's low, but it's close to what a dealer might give for trade, and what the Insurance would use for their valuation.

According to that site an 87 Schiada with a V-drive is worth $10,930!
It took me two years to find my 89 and I spent over 36k.

I got my Lebel from a young couple in Santa Clarita that had been given the boat by her father. They were jet-ski people and didn't want a v-drive because they felt the Big River area was too shallow (I soon discovered that the boat had probably sat on it's prop overnight) I got the boat for a price that amounted to thievery after trying to educate the guy about the value of a good v-drive boat.
I think a boat is an item of such a personal nature that I couldn't give one away to a family member that only appreciates its monetary value, but I realize that not all families have sentimental taboos like mine does. I thought about sending pictures of the boat after I restored it to forward to the dad so he could see that I was appreciating the boat that his son-in-law thought of as annoying and obsolete, but never did.

Good post AzDon. The guy I bought my boat from still calls after four years to make sure it's all good. If he sees it in a hotel parking lot in Havasu or Laughlin he does a drive by to make sure I'm keeping it up. If not I hear about it. When I own a boat I take interest in who buys it if I sell it.

That boat looks like a Hocking 22, which is an exact copy of the Schiada 24 with 2 feet cut off. Howard bought Hockings molds in the late 1980's. Which is the Howard 22.
