Very cool. I used to ride with a dude a fews years ago who had his original 1979+/- Husky 250CR. It was pretty clean and a cool old-school bike like this one. Always fun to see the old-school stuff still being used.

Wow, that is a lot of work to put into an old dirt bike. Very cool! So I think the easy way to explain this is tell us what isn't modified on it, The gas tank looks pretty stock anyway, lol. :)

that Yamaha is bad ASS!!! Used to have a 465 and a 490 and let me tell you the power is just crazy! Wish I still had them.
I restored this one somewhat. Picked it up for $300. 1982 Yamaha IT250. This bike will pull wheelies in every gear. Awesome power for a 250cc.

That is funny right there. and true!
It is a blast to go out to the tracks to practice on my personal bike ( which by the way, looks no where as good as this one ) and pass people on new bikes, it drives them crazy!
I just got back from Bike week where I raced my 465 in the GNCC in the +40 class. That track was 13 miles of nothing but sand whoops, but I finished 7th out of about 50 guys all on the latest shit! In fact I would have wholeshot, I had a couple of bike lenghts on everyone from the dead engine start but I missed a shift and still ended up 4th into the first turn! Acouple of miles into it a puff berm did just that and went PUFF and I lost the front end and went down, by the time I got the beast restarted I was down around 40th or so.
Everytime I would pass some one they would just go ballistic and try to come back on me for the next couple of corners when they realized it was some dude on a 25 year old bike that was puttin the beat down on em!

That bike was brutal. Even more dangerous than the Suzuki TM 400. Massive amounts of power, no handling and average brakes.

I have a friend with a nitroused V-max that fits this description perfectly. Sure is fun in a straight line though.

LOL...I was thinking along those same lines....
I find it hilarious that a 1981 bike is considered or called VINTAGE....
I used bikes like that for parts :p
.
Very nice and clean though...it would be a ride back in time for me. My kid still has a rides one of my old '84 yz250's regularly. Dang thing just won't die.

That is bitchen, Rock On!
I learned a long time ago, it's not the bike, it's the rider. Don't assume I can keep up because of the hardware! :)
Great GNCC story!
I dig the Excels.
What gas do you run? 110? LOL

Want to sell it and upgrade the kid?
Seriously, I have been looking for a 84 250 for quite some time!
I didnt start riding until 78 or so, so even those older bikes were around then, the ones that stir my soul are the one that I actualy wanted to ride or did own and ride at some time or another.
Thats what all the Maico guys at the races think also, until the Yamy blow past them in the rough like they are standing still! Dude have you ever riddin one of these? The front brakes will lock up the tire! And it corners great! Some of that is because of the shocks I run, they keep the back end up way more than the stock shock so it doesnt look like a chopper!

I buy them direct from FOX then machine up some spacers and travel limiters add the clicker to resevoir and finally either a dual or tripple rate spring setup to compensate for the flat curve on the rear suspension. It works really good when I am finished. Right now I am working on a cartridge fork for it. Will use the stock sliders for that sleeper effect.
I use Sunoco 110 and Yamalube 2r.
Believe it or not, I have seen pictures some where of a superretarded out 465!LOL! But did not have a total death wish as he put a front disk on it!

Yes I live in Havasu but I got that IT when I was living in Orange County at the time. The IT was thrashed when I first got it. I think I must have spent over $500 in parts getting it somewhat running and looking good. My biggest problem has been the carburator joint, between the carb and the cylinder. The one on my IT is cracked and leaks in air. Can't not locate one. Yamaha as disconntinued this item. Do you know where I might find a good one?

I know you are right, I use to have "Twin Clickers", the remote res looks so cool, I thought I'd be funny. :boxed:
Some of the first Mono Yamaha's would fit a 3' fox TT shock I think...

Yes I have ridden one, many times. One of my riding buddies bought one brand new when they first came out. You're right about the front brake, touch it and it would lock up the wheel and pitch you over the bars. The bike would come on the pipe and wheelie in every gear. You had to be the incredible hulk to hang on. That Monoshock design inherently wanted to make the bike endo. And the frame flexed like the forks on that Honda XL. The best open bike of that era was the 490 Maico. That said, I still think the Yamaha's a bad ass bike.

Not a dirt bike but I still have my first bike.
1974 Kawasaki 750 H2---triple cyl 2 cycle, I think it has 12 or 14,000 miles on it.
It's been 21 years this spring since I have ridden it. Hmmmmm about time to do a restore and start riding it again.
I always wonder what the crotch rocket kids would think about the "ring a ding--ding--ding" noise???? I used to use castor oil for lube ----- wonder what they would think about that smell????
Be good, jim

I remember when I first started riding, my buddies dad had a 465. I was riding an old beat up YZ 80 ( I was 12-13 at the time) We were at El Mirage, and I seized the 80 about 5 minutes into the day. All my buddies were racing around on a track near the lake bed. After a while, my buddies dad let me ride his bike! He needed to start it, and I had to stand on a milk crate to get on it, he helped me get it into gear and moving. I still remember the look on all my friends faces when I pulled onto the track on that thing, and how scared I was of the power. When I stopped riding, I was shaking from the adreniline. What a blast, thanks for the reminder!!

My grandfathers 1970 Yamaha CT175. This photo was taken around mid 70's sometime at the river house in Parker. This was the bike I first learned to ride on when I was 12 years old. It was awesome bike. Beat the hell out of that 175 and it never let me down. Wish I still had it. But I must say my 2004 Yamaha WR450 is out of this world! The have come a long way since that CT175
