Took the plunge today and bought a 30' 2005 Kachina Drone with the 525 EFI. Does anyone know about how fast it will go and how reliable it will be??

Congrats on the purchase, Louie and the gang were great to deal with. I can't say what it will do, but I can tell you that my 26 did exactly what Louie said it would. 62mph right out of the box, only a 496HO, it may loosen up a bit with time. He made no exaggerations about performance and I liked that. The bottom part of that boat is a tried and true design from Kachina, the only really new part is the upper half, so whatever they told you is based on experiance I would say.

How much are those boats? The Drone looks pretty cool. My guess on speed with a single would be low 60's? The Merc stuff should be reliable, don't know about the rest of the boat. How many do they sell a year, not much talk about them.

I believe this will be the first mid- cabin Kachina Drone ever .
Cost for this boat is $100,000 that included tax and registration , list was $74,900.
I just spoke with Louie ; He says empty it should do 73 mph

Cool lookin' boat, but I'm not too hip on the name (Drone don't sound too sporty to me). A buddy of mine has an '03 Shadow 30 with a 500EFI, he gets mid to upper 60's. Sweet boat!

Is there not enough room to run twins? 30' is pushing it IMO for a 30' boat.

That boat is so cool, they did the kachina name in melting ice across the top. here are some pics from the kachina website. I love that chrome outdrive. Louie makes about 80 boats a year, he also did the paint work on that Bourget (sp) boat , the red one with the burning 100 dollar bill. He has some awesome people working there.http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/1284Pickup_001-med.jpg http://www.kachinaboats.com/drone/images/drone2.jpg http://www.kachinaboats.com/drone/images/drone3.jpg http://www.kachinaboats.com/drone/images/drone8.jpg

OK so how do they do it, that can't all be gel.

Every boat is different, I imagine that one is not all gel. Mine is, I kept it relatively simple because I wanted all gel. This one is paint, the pic doesn't do the detail justice though.http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/1284KachinaAtlantis-med.jpg

The great thing is, WHATEVER you can dream up, they can do it. All included in the price, interior and exterior.

73 sounds a little optimistic, but you never know. Why don't you grab your GPS (or borrow one from somebody) and go for a test drive and find out??

wow, very cool.... did you choose to have the controls on the starboard side? Ours are on the other side, not as hard to get use to as I thought it would be. LOVE the yellow bolt across the side panel (by the coolie cup)((those light up at night)) :)
LOVE the blue glass (batmobile) type windshields.
Our boat has not windshield and I am kinda glad, it was a bummer to clean, but you won't have folk bumping into them with sunscreen on like we did in our little Sea Ray (19ft)
awsome boat!
:D

Congrats,
Im doing a 3.3L/EFI whipple conversion on a 2003 hard deck 30' Kachina currently with an HP 525EFI. My customer says it runs 68 mph @ 5200 rpm with a 24 bravo. It appears to be the same bottom. It should be up and running again in a few days, I'll let you know how it does.:D

Took out the 30' Kachina today with the upgraded 525 Whipple 3.3L EFI. We ran a very stable 78.4 on GPS with quite a bit of fuel and two of us in the boat, now pulling a 30 lab (from a 24) and just touching the rev limiter. The boat will easily run 80+ with a tad less fuel pressure and a 32 lab. Im sure of it. But the 30 is perfect for the family, friends, lots of fuel, and HOT weather. Its a fun boat to drive.

I believe single engine is the only option for this boat
