Ok, I was reading the other stereo thread and looked at a few of the websites.
I want to put a stereo in my boat but don't know what pieces of equipment I will need to get a decent system.
Now my idea of a decent system is around $500. No I don't want audiovox or that stuff but I would like a cd player, maybe four speakers, amp to give some boost. I don't need to blast everyone around me out but just enough to float around the boat and be able to hear the tunes and have a conversation.
What componenets would you stereo gurus recommend to put this package together.:D

Find a good stereo shop in your area that is willing to do boats too.
Out here it's Simi Stereo, and they're excellent.
Quality service, excellent prices. I mean it, very good work, and the price is right.
The recycler is filled with ads for radio shops too.

Talk to Roz! I hear he can get you all that for under $500...
...with a warranty.
What size boat?

I think it may be possible... Alpine MRPF240 amp, Clarion DXZ545mp/ALpine Cda9827 / Pioneer Dehp450mp (all cd-mp3 and sat. radio ready), 1pr Eclipse 6.5's, and 1pr Eclipse 6x9's.... Off the top of my head, it's pretty close o what you descibe you're looking for... Both good sound and good value :) Just for chits and giggles, I'll total it up tomorrow to see if I hit HH's target price:D

The first rule of thumb in audio...the customer always sandbags on the amount he will spend.
No 5 channel and pre-fab'ed W3?

It is a 77 20 ft Spectra Daycruiser. Just looking for some tunes. Yeah after I get the $500 quote I will probably only want to really spend about $300. :D :D

I'll add that one up, too... Alpine MRVF450 and he can add a pro wedge JL 10 prefab now, or later. Heck he could even get the same 10L5 setup as 77charger....
Don't worry ST, I'll say it's 900 and so can to talk me down to 500 ;)

Well almost.... After tax it comes to 501.04, but I think I can work with him on that.. :D
Similar system but with the JL's E6450 and JL's prefab 10 comes in around 775.00 after tax....
Not bad for basic tunes... ;)

If it were me, I'd go with the sub setup. I've never known anyone to be happy without one (no accoustics in boats mean no bass without a sub).
...On the other hand, if it were really me, I'd probably shoehorn more audio in there than the boat is worth...

It's not the size of the shoehorn, it's how you use it....

I have a very robust shoehorn...
...but a little boat.
