So I just finished restoring the teak on my boat (swimsteps, ski locker, etc.) and it was sorta a pain in the dick!!
Am I gonna have to do this every year?
What do you guys use on your teak?
Mirvin;)

Mirv,
My boat has a teak swim platform and assorted teak trim
throughout the boat.
For years I fought the battle also, then I got lazy and smart.
Get some Sikkens Cetol, clean/strip the old wood and apply
three coats with 24 hour drying time in between (important)
coats. This stuff is salt water rated and is the shit.
Then every couple of years, scotchbrite and re-apply another
single topcoat of Cetol (unless there are damaged areas) and
this should be enough.
West Marine Stocks it.

Almost forgot, Cetol is not a teak-like oil, it is a coating
like similar to a polyurethane that dries hard and
prevents moisture entrapment.
You will likey.

Thanks OR. I used the West Marine stripper / cleaner and then gave it 3 coats of teak oil. Can I apply the cetol over the teak oil?

I just sanded down some super messed up swim steps on my new to me boat. Went real heavy on the paper at first to get the dirt out the kept stepping up till it was super smooth. Finished it all off with 10 coats of Teak oil that i picked up at Homedepot. Looks bitchin and will stay that way for at least the summer. I have been told that in winter you should soak the teak in an oil such as ATF. Good luck!

No, I would not recommend it. Just use the cleaner/stripper
again and let it dry. The oil in the Teak would probably
prevent good adhesion or cause a gooey mess.
If the pieces are nice and smooth, just apply with a brush.
It seems the coating is self leveling and the brush strokes
disappear. Clean up is with mineral spirits.
Stuffs kind of pricey, but a quart lasts many moons.
It made my 1988 old dog look like a new pup.

Jet,
Next year use the Sikkens, it will last many seasons and make
that teak treatment look like old skool.
Don't use AFT on wood, it has a lot of aromatic (sp) chemicals
that can cause damage.
