I just got back from the boat show. I only planned on window shopping but ended up buying a 27.9 new era with a 525. What do you guys think? I am selling my Stoker to a frind of mine on the board. Did I make a good decision, or did I buy out of impulse?

Lavey makes a great boat! But there was some concern about that paarticular hull. There was a thread about it on here a few months ago but I couldn't find it. I've never been in one so I have no first hand knowledge but they do make GREAT boats! You'll love the 525, except for the excessive soot on the back during the first 20 hours.
Edit: I think it's only fair that I add if I remember the outcome of the thread I mentioned, Lavey has corrected the problems with that hull.

I thought the outcome was that Lavey asked ***boat if the problem may have been with the ***boat drivers....
I dont think they changed the bottom at all. The twin step is gonna make the boat a little looser especially in flat water.
Those bottoms love the rougher water!! :D

Nice boat, but he price is outta hand. $112K for a 27ft boat, you gotta be kidding me. Is the 112K out the door, or are they gonna add sales tax to that?:p

The Lavey Craft 2750 measures 28'6" overall (my 21' Lavey measures 22'8"). How do figure it's basically a 26'er??? Or are you talking about a different boat?

I figured they include the swim step like most builders. Guess their honest and subtract the 1.5ft. Still outrageous price.:D
I'm gonna put my boat up for sale. Who wants a deal on a 1999 34' Magic with twin 454 Mags, ext steering, k-planes, big sound system. A steal @ 72K:D

The only thing that I don’t understand.. Is how can you go to a V bottom after having a air entrapment hull? Not to take anything away from that boat.. Its very nice.. Has a nice cabin.. Can go in the ocean.. Can sleep in it.. Very cool.. But unless I could have both.. I think I would go with a cat of some type

I stand corrected on thinking they had made changes to the hull.

Call Lavey and ask them yourself! There's nothing wrong with the boat. I spent over an hour with Kevin Cooper (Owner of F-11) going over the percieved issues with the bottom. It's good to go, and they would be happy to show you too. I've also riden in the Poker Run Addition (Identical to the F-11) at well over 80 in Lake Mead, it's a solid running boat.

I was thinking exactly this.

That is what helped me make my decision also. That and the fact that I live 5 min. from the Dunes. I will be keeping it here for the winter Catalina runs.

Don't get me wrong, I like pissing money down the toilet just as much as the next guy.
I was getting quotes for $500 of a 28' v-hull and $2000-3000 for a 25' cat. All with stock power. Most insurers won't even write a policy on a cat.
Blower with a cat? or 600-700 HP? Forget it. uninsurable.......
This is ridiculous......

....29 ft deep v with 525 for power for $700 per year.
