View Full Version : Addiction Amongst Us...

Her454

RD's decision to quit smoking really got me thinking about addiction. I was wondering about another kind of addiction. ***boat addiction. Its been joked about many times...but I wonder if we picked 5 or 6 people .......if they could actually NOT Log On, which means No Lurking, No Posting for 2 weeks. Could you do it? Seriously? Here are my choices of people I dont think could make it through 2 whole weeks of absolutly NO ***boat or other Boating Forums, INCLUDING RRL - at all. Who are your choices? Care to make a wager on the top 5 choices and see if they are up to the challenge? :)
RD (But that would literally put him over the edge right now and we dont want that. ;)
1 MRSFLYINVEE
2 MRSRESTLESS
3 JORDY
4 JBB
5 Mandelon
6 Tom Brown
BTW, Im sure there is a way for the Admin at ***boat and RRL to check log Ins for the top 5 - just to keep it honest.....:)

Not sure about that but my definition of addiction is
1. You cannot go all day at work or home on a regular weekday
without at least logging on and reading the forums.
2. You find yourself wondering if a particular forum member (one whom you have never even met) has succumbed to his/her addiction.
3. Insomnia is a good a reason as any to check the forums at 3:30am.
4. You meet someone at the river, lake or races and they bring up a thread from the previous week, or from 2 years ago, and you remember it vividly.
Ok, Im scaring myself. :D :D

Look... I'm not fooling anyone here. All four of those points hit me right between the eyes. :D
... but it's worse than that. I'll bet few people here can tell when I leave work. It takes me about 3~5 minutes to drive home and I've often spent that time thinking of a response to one or more ongoing discussion(s). When I get home, the first thing I do is post the response and it endes up being a seemless conversation. My name doesn't even have time to drop from the online list.
The virtual monkey is on my back in the biggest possible way. In fact, I think I'll stop by work and pick up my laptop since I'm heading out of town and want to be able to be online this weekend.

Don't even get me started on THAT addiction! LOL! :D The SONG CHAIN here isn't the only one i'm addicted to - there are 3 others that I regularly play elsewhere :o , but I'm particularly gonna miss playing on the one here. I'm looking at serious withdrawals while I'm gone. :(
You won't have to play alone though cuz there are other folks here who play SONG CHAIN occasionally. :) Happy Easter to you Debbolas. :)

So far we've discovered from the thread that I am TOTALLY addicted to ***boat, with several co-posters that choose denial.
FM is addicted to posting lyrics, along with her addiction to boost her post count but keep her carbs low while she cheats with chocolate.
RiverKitty - Addicted to sex and has now addicted her therapist.
Debbolas' Husband -Addicted to Carbs and the song thread.
HARDCORE-SKI- Completely addicted as he posts all day then goes home and immediately turns the puter on. Totally in denial tho. :)
EDIT: Debbola's son addicted to Jelly Beans. :)

This forum is wonderful ... but I know it's not the forum itself that draws me here ... a forum is only as good as the people who frequent it ... it so happens I'm quite fond of many of the people here that's why I only lasted a month when I tried to leave. Addicted? If you are used to spending time in the company of certain people and then that stops happening and you miss them is that an addiction or a preference?

LOL, funny how this keeps popping up :) I didnt read through the whole thing but I dont think anyone ever did it.........did they?
hehhehe ...I dug this up from the archives over at RRL and it was posted in
05'. I'd say I've made alot of progress hu:D What site do you blame for your online addiction and when did you get hooked? Can any of you relate?
Mine was ***boat. Lurking of course, at first. And then finally the nerve for that first post. It was harder then, less people. Fewer females and less acceptance. Slowly at first..... then as I got sucked in and started to know and appreciate some of the members candor and humor, admittedly I started to wonder what was going on with the boards when I wasn't around. I started to check in on threads every free chance I had. I would be driving in my car thinking about Tom Brown's fiber intake and laugh. Or wondering who or what law RD was challenging and couldn't wait to get home and read the debate. Betting to myself on who the Tribal Drums would strike next and secretly picking who I wanted it to be ;). Topless of course. Then it progessed to taking pictures for the sole purpose of being the "first to post" them for everyones viewing pleasure after a ***boat gathering. I even became so sick and twisted as to "pose people" for a shot that would make a funny post. I found myself checking my "post count" daily to see if I was still in the top 5. It gets worse. My computer died one night during one of those hot debates of Froggy and RD's and I couldn't sleep. I called my neighbor and asked if I could log on to check an urgent issue at work. So in my pajamas, at my neighbors, Im reading the latest on ***boat in the wee hours of the morning, while trying to minimize my screen so no one can see it. If only I had known then. Then, after my canine accident that left me on disability for almost 3 months and boosted my post count by thousands I can honestly say I was addicted to ***boat and even a few others by then. I was a gone'r and didnt even realize it yet. My ***boat friends had become my family, my life. My world revolved around it. Work suffered, I didnt cook, my house looked like a slum and my animals were lucky to get fed twice a week.
Then RRL came along. Yet another website to surf and occupy my time. One more won't hurt, right? I can't NOT join. I might miss something that isn't happening on all the others I now frequent, several times daily. And besides, there are different people there, new blood. Yea, thats it.
A year later I sent myself to ***boat rehab. Im a pretty strong person so I wasn't worried. Should be a breeze. Problem was, I had met so many of these people from ***boat and a few other sites that I had been socializing with on a pretty regular basis so it was like trying to quit drinking, while your in a bar. Of course they were concerned about me so they felt the need to call me and let me know all the latest stuff that was going on, so I wouldn't be tempted of course. :smackhead Did I mention yet that I have great friends? :) Anyway, I sort of fell off the ***boat wagon, but not for long. Now a member of 47 boating sites and 3 Rehab attempts later I finally did it.
My job of 20 years was very understanding. As they fired me they wished me well in my continued rehab and said they would give me a positive reference. They no longer have the internet for their employees and they are far more productive, thanks to me.
I am a success story. I can quit anytime I want. Just to prove it, I will post pics later.
And BTW, this was just a joke people, so no PM's this time asking about my job LOL.
