so i have always launched at windsor, but last year on the day b4 memorial day the wind kicked the waves up and that launch ramp was scary to load a boat on a trailer. so my question is this? of the various places to launch from on the island such as the marina, site six, and crazy horse; which of these 3 offers the most protection from waves in nasty weather?
also on weekends do any of these launch sites have long lines like windsors launch site and if so which site has the shortest wait time and the best parking for your truck and trailer?

I would say for the best protection from waves the marina. Parking the marina seems to always be well organized, with someone always directing traffice when it's busy. Had to launch there a few times when windsor was full, and had no problems. But you better have mufflers or you will be asked to do the decibel test.

The Marina increased their launch fees this season and they don't offer annual passes. It can get expensive if you launch there a lot.

Can anyone use the ramp at Crazy Horse or do you have to be staying there?

sleek23
03-30-2006, 08:43 PM
as far as i know you have to be stayin there, although a camp ground fee isnt much different from a daily pass if you dont stay there and there arent any crowds launching plus easy ice and beverages located at the store.

The thing about Crazy Horse is that if you are not camping there you have to pay for a day pass anyways. It got pretty expensive last year when the rest of the launch ramps were full.

I've driven up to Cattail Cove. At least I think that's the name of the place. Windsor was full, I can't launch at the marina (no mufflers), and site six is the worst place ever, so I drove 30 minutes towards the damn to Cattail and it was pretty much deserted. In and out with no hassles.

We used site 6 during spring break and had no issued. The way they have the ramp set ip is kind of cool. oh and it was free;)

If you take a room at the Nautical - minimum 2 nights at $250/night, and have a small light boat, you can launch there and part your rig in the dirt

We launched at Crazy Horse this past Saturday, no lines and only $10 for day use to luanch. It was great! Got in, got out! On the holidays, you do have to pay for a campsite... and they have a min 3 or 4 night stay policy so you do have to pay for all nights they enforce. So on the off weekends/weekdays, you do not have to stay there to use the launch ramp, just pay the day use fee.

Maybe? :) I think he runs 37" tires, and when the water was coming in the cab, he was still signaling me to back up...
At least it pulled back out without so much as a tire slip...
