I usually leave from Anaheim Hills between 9:00 and 10:00 PM on Friday night. I miss most of the traffic and can drive about 90-95 along the I-40 on the way out.

Thursday 7:00 PM - just make it past the I10 truck scales before they close 4/5 lanes overnight for road work.

No I am not towing. The boat stays in Havasu. That makes life so much easier coming home Sunday night when I can pass everybody and make it home at a reasonable hour.

Whenever the wife decides she has packed enough crap for two days. I prefer around 5 am or 8 am on Friday. Noon if we leave on Thursday.

Usually about 4AM on Fri... I can get the boat gassed up, check into the hotel, and have the boat in the water by lunchtime...
I made the mistake of trying to leave on a Fri at about 3PM once.....It took 4 hours to get to Palm Springs..:mad:

If I have to leave on a Friday, I either go before 2 or wait till 8 or 9.
I really try and leave Thursday evening.
Take the 91 to the 60 to the 10 and then out. I do not take Rice Rd however, too many idiots thnking it is a NASCAR event.
I don't tow, have the boat stored in Havasu

73 ->55 -> 91 -> 15 -> 40 -> 95
305 miles from Newport Beach
95 -> 40 -> 15 -> 91 -> 55 -> 73
305 miles from Lake Havasu City
Last weekend, not towing and leaving at 4:30am, the computer in the car read an avg 83 mph from my pad to Havasu.

definately not, the most I have ever towed at is 80 to 85 and thats rare, especially when in CA you are only allowed to tow at 55, but there is only one CHP on the 40 during the night, so the chances of getting caught are slim. Anyways before we even think about travelling at those speeds we make sure everything is ready, especially tire pressure, etc

I leave Santa Ana around 12:00pm to miss the traffic on the 91. If you are not past the 55 on the 91 by 2:00, it is quicker to take the 57 to the 10 and then go out the 10. It is quite a bit further to go around, but much faster in terms of time. I always take the 10 out to Rice to get to Havasu. I have found that it is about 30-40 min. faster than 15-40 route.

I usually try to leave on Thursday, and before noon when I can. From Dana Point, I take the 5 to the toll road to the 91, 60, 10, Rice Road, about 5 hours without traffic in my BMW 528. About 300 miles. It's alway a relief to get to Rice Road and open her up a little.
I've taken the 15 to 40, it's about the same miles, but it seem there is alway traffic around Cajon Pass.

We always use 55-91-10 to Rice Rd. We leave at 6:30pm and roll into our house before 11:30. The fast track helps! On the way home we leave Havasu between 4 and 5pm.

I fly out about 50% of the time. I can leave John Wayne or Long Beach at 7,11, or 5 pm and catch the turbo prop into Havasu without much layover in Phoenix.
Book ahead and get the flight for about $136 plus tax. NO Sunday drive back stress, flipped cars, or tanker overturns to contend with. it takes about three hours beginning to end. Unbeleivable view flying into the lake.

toll road to 91 then sit in traffic, 60 then sit in traffic, 10 to rice road flying to Havasu . We leave about 4 pm. on fridays. What else do you do ? sit in traffic and be there by 9pm, or sit at the house here until 7pm and get there at 11pm. thats 2 hrs of drinking but I have to sit in traffic. Tried leaving at 4 am after a work meeting and I didn't get enough sleep so I was tired the whole weekend.
