Just wondering who lives in Havasu full time and how you like it? Also, where did you live prior to moving to Havi and why did you make the move?

I tell ya....... if wifey would EVEN consider it, id be giving it some serious thought. NO traffic, Slower pace, weekday boating, and could have a mansion for less than half the price of our average home here in San Diego. If they had a Nordstrom she might think about it.....

lived in s. cal.. laguna hills ..
moved to LHC in Feb of 2002..
did so cause i was tired of the rat race.... wanted to slow down and pursue dreams instead of revenue for big companies..
hard to adjust to the very slow pace of Lake Havasu. Had to adjust to the fact that you just can't run to the store and get anything that you want.
monday thru thursday this can be a very slow, very small town.. if you are looking for the wild crazy weekend life all week long you will be dissappointed.
Once you get use to the "havasu" life style and if you can accept that lifestyle then its a great place to live.
Havasu is a town of Have's and have not's the middle class is now just starting to grow.
Havasu is a town where everyone still knows everyones business and the divorce rate is unreal.
But we are growing and many of these problems are starting to go away..
Havasu - I LOVE it

Been here about 4 yrs and love it.Moved from Murrieta/Temecula area.
Tired of making the drive to and from every weekend.Cashed out on our house in So Cal and bought here.
Get used to the pace and never want to go back to Cal.My wife missed Robinsons,Nordstroms, etc, but after not having them you don't miss em so much.We just hit the mall when in Cal once a month or so.

Lotsa lookers, and had one couple come back twice now, and they have an appointment to come again tomorrow. They have a house in H.B they sold, and have 30 days from last weekend to buy another house.
I was supposed to go to Havasu this weekend, but cancelled on the hopes of signing papers  :D

I moved from Laguna Niguel to Murrieta and I don't like it here much. I would move to LHC in a heartbeat if I could get my husband to do it.

Moved here 15 years ago from running spring was the last place i lived.
raised in whittier moved to glendora then to the mountains. didn't
like the snow so moved to havasu it was great 15 years ago but
i think now it's kinda over crowded like any other place i wish it
was like it was 15 years ago.

We moved up last month for basically the same reasons as Shadow. The plan was to move here this later this year, but things came together sooner. My wife travels a couple times during the month, so malls aren't an issue. We lived in Temple City\Pasadena prior and it's so much nicer to get around without traffic hell.

I'd seriously consider moving there if I could figure out a way to make a decent living out there. The problem out there now is houses are not nearly as cheap as they used to be. A nice house is going to cost you $400k out there now.

Moved over to Havi last July. Hands down the best thing I have ever done. Town is a bit clicky but they warm up quick. I'm sure now that my buisness is picking up I have no need for So Cal. or Menifee although it was a great place to live also. Boating is a way of life for me and my family and when my wife and I separated I said why not! I can do more for myself and others with the move. I think it's a great place for a family............So much to do. Always something going on.

Boating until Dec,Ride the Harley to Laughlin & Parker,Rhino the desert and go shooting.Work on the house & boat during the off season, things that get neglected during the summer.Ford Tech for $,wife works for the Post office.
You need to either move here with a bussiness or skills that you can demand Calif wages or close to them. Not alot of high paying carreers out here.

working on moving up there full time...
I consider myself a resident, but currently work in Las Vegas so its either a 2.5-3 hr drive each way to work or I rent a room a couple nights a week.

Seeing in all how we very rarely missed a weekend in havasu.
The kids were missing school, due to us leaving earlier due to the ever growing traffic. Our river time was getting cut shorter as the kids got older.
it just seemed like the next logical thing to do.
We were concerned about the schools as we heard so many negative things...
The schools are GREAT, alot better than California.
As far as Jobs GOOD LUCK, we have heard from many people who came from california, finding a GOOD paying job is hard to do, as we have experienced.
Overall it was the best move of our lives.
The kids love it the wife loves it and I love it.

We ride qauds and there's always something to do at the house even before moving up full time.
I transfered within the company and am working in Kingman, but keep in mind that while it's 60 miles it only takes an HOUR to get there unlike my old commute of 45 miles ( in the morning, about 1 hour, at night anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 hours )

We can't move to Havasu yet, my daughter is a senior in high school, and we promised her she would graduate here in June.
Me, I'm looking for a fresh start. Having been through four back surgeries (plus a shoulder and knee), and being retired from a passion that I was lucky enough to have as a profession (firefighter/paramedic), has left me somewhat empty, and wanting to try something different.
I can't wait for the next step I take in life..........

What a great thread..... This could be lengthy. My wife and i left Lancaster Ca. where we grew up h/s college etc. we needed to get out from the daily grind and hustle and bustle, i just didn't feel safe anymore with the L.a. scene moving in. We boated in Laughlin, Havasu, Lake Mojave etc. so we really liked the life style and said let's sell our house and move out there somewhere, mind you i was a school teacher and private investigator while Richelle worked at the hospital.
It was an easy decision for us, we knew we couldn't afford Havasu and bought a brand new house (cheap) in Kingman Az. I taught at Kingman H.S. and Richelle again was working for a doctor. During the summers that i wasn't teaching i would work down in Havasu for John and Michelle "Attention to Detail" (Warlock25) on the boards doing details for most of you guys, i then started my own company called "Full Throttle Performance & Detail" in Kingman. John and i discussed buying his business and merged his customers with mine and that's what afforded me to move here, in one year at Kingman i made $50.000 on the new house and it's going up every day too.
My teaching salary was cut almost in half but we don't live out of our means or have a big boat payment or the like.
Im completely happy here and made several friends like -shadow-summitKarl- Aaron-Ziggy-Dia and Shawn-phebus-dicudmore- and many others as customers.
We bought a dune buggy (manx meyers) a used Harley, a used bigger boat for those bigger weekends but really miss a hot rod jet boat for during the week when it's nice out there (mon-fri)
I even bought a 9mm cause it's legal here, we go shooting on the trails we use with the buggy and there is always something to do here.
I was asked already to put in a application for the Varsity football job but iv'e payed my dues in coaching and now it's time for me and my family to relax a bit and that is exactly what we are doing.
This is a slow town and i love everything about it, we made the plunge and that's my story.....sorry it was long but i warned you :) .........BigDoug

I currently live in Lake Arrowhead, have a trailer @ the Islander RV Resort and my wife and I recently purchased a home in Havasu. Since my wife is a teacher in the same school district as my kids, and I currently can work anywhere, we're going to attempt to live in Havasu this summer once my son's out of baseball. I'd move there in a heart-beat. The slow living is similar to Lake Arrowhead, but my wifes not ready to move full time just yet.

I played there once in the summer. The key is:
1. Lots of beer to stay hydrated.
2. Finish by 9AM so you don't cook your melon.

I started a business in havi at the end of 1999, (financed and set a up a THEN friend up to run it), and have been commuting ever since. Had we not had a son in school in Orange County, might have moved out. Definately a different way of life in Havi. One has to like the slower pace. It can get boring if you are a true OC'er I think. I LOVE the slower pace for sure. My daugher and son-in-law are moving out tonight to live and work. (Both have jobs lined up already). They are excited to be moving from Balboa so they can afford to buy their first house for under half a mil and not only get a tiny condo for their money. Who knows? I think they will like it. My son graduates next year so I may be close behind them???? The restaurants are improving, the shopping is getting better. We lack a true total economy still I think but that is changing daily as well. I like the fact that Bullhead is growing rapidly due to the casinos and slamming up major home developments and that Kingman is growing industrially due to the NAFTA boundry and railhead/distibution/Wallmart Distribution center. Havasu is turning out to be the slower paced bedroom community so many of us seek out to live in. My money is still on Havi to continue to be the "vacation like" place to live along the Colorado River. :boxed:

meaniam - We've lived in Arrowhead for 7 yrs. My wife is a Kindergarten teacher at Grandview. We love it up here. I always say that we have the best of both worlds right now living in Arrowhead and spending most of our free time in Havasu. Since we're planning to spend most of our time in Havasu this summer, we're even renting our dock out this summer.

Just wondering who lives in Havasu full time and how you like it? Also, where did you live prior to moving to Havi and why did you make the move?
I love it here! I have a full time job, own a house, new truck, spa, pool dirtbike, quad, boat and life couldn't be any better. My wife and I lived in Orange County all our lives, then I decided I wanted to make a big change, after I got layed off from my 16 year job in Jan 2003 due to 911. Been living here in Havasu for 3 years now. My main reasons I wanted to move here is
1. Less money to buy a new home
2. It's the desert
3. Less crowded (no stop and go traffic!!!!!!!!)
4. Summer Monsoon t-storms
5. The river house in Parker
6. Being able to ride my dirtbike from my driveway out into the desert!
I work full time on the North side of town as a SMT pick and place machine operator. That job I just love to death.

I would move there in a minute if I didn't have to take such a big pay-cut in my line of work. The move would also have adverse effects on my retirement. With the amount of equity I have in my house in so-cal, I know I could pay cash for a nice place in Havi, but bringing home about half of what I make now would just kill me mentally. Oh well, 14 years left and I'm out California....

see, i looked there 5 years ago when it was reasonable and the cali crowed hadn't moved in yet. house prices trippled and i cant get a house equal to what i have here for the same money so...i guess a couple of weekends a year will have to do

You can't beat it! Moved here from Wrightwood, Rancho Cucamonga, & Diamond Bar. The schools are great, the pace slower, and the weather is unbeatable. Wouldn't go back for the world.

Doing great, just over the whole cost of living, traffic, lame people, California thing. What's prompting the move to Havi anyways? Wish you guys luck and hope you're doing well.
We just really enjoy being here. Have meet some great people. Since the house was finished here in November I have wanted to be no where else but here. :)

Like he said w/o the Ford and Post office stuff plus don't need to work. :rollside: I frigen love trhis place, mnts, mex, LV to visit, all within a couple hours. Boating all year long, swetshirts at times, bur no one around and Topoc Canyon floats are priceless that time of the year..I love this frigen place....
Oh wait , never mind, this place sucks, move somewhere else. :rollside:

If you like this place in the least and you have a house here, it won't be long before you stop going back to Cali and never look back.

I own a house there and I feel exactly that way. Sometimes I wish my job would take a shit so I could do it. But for now I aint giving that job up for nothing.

I think this is so true. It is harder and harder to go back every weekend. I keep saying one of these days I am going to refuse to get back in the car Sunday night. :)

Moved to Havasu 12 years ago from O.C. (By the way Dia, this is Debbie typing) Husband worked for O.C. Register, I worked as a mortgage broker in Corona/Riverside and commuted on the 91 freeway since its' inception.
We always went to Lost Lake and have had a place there for 16 years - still have a place there. We never boated much at Havasu prior to moving here. Havasu was just the largest "city" along the river where you could find work, buy groceries, etc... without commuting too far, and it was centrally located to all the areas we like to go i.e. Powell, Mead, Mohave, Blythe, Parker Strip, etc.... I took a 75% pay cut in the initial move, but with a lot of hard work and thinking outside the box - we definately aren't struggling to make a living here. If you are the type of person who needs to work for a large company with benefits and a retirement plan you probably won't find it in Havasu yet.....but if you are willing to work your ass off, open up your mind to new ideas, and honor your word, you will be like a shark in a guppy pond and the sky is the limit. It is a wonderful place to live if you are truly appreciative of what Havasu has to offer. If you come here disappointed because Havasu doesn't have all the things So.Cal. has to offer, then just stay in O.C. My advice to someone considering moving here full time: Don't come with car payments, boat payments, credit card payments, etc... make sure you have everything paid for. That way you can truly enjoy the reason you came here in the first place. We don't miss So.Cal. at all. After you spend a few Weekend Wednesday's on the lake, you'll see what I mean.

Moved here 6+ years ago from Chicago-area to escape congestion and cold. Knew absolutely nothing about this place or knew anyone, just looked like a nice place to live and houses at the time were much more affordable than they are now. Little to no culture, but...unbeatable weather and loads of fun outdoor stuff to do all year round. My career is going well because I work in one of the few indigenous business (boating), that provides great potential. Only regret is that I didn't have a Mrs. Right and doubt I'll find her in town. Have met girls from out of town and many like Havasu, but...could not imagine living where there is no shopping!
