Who takes their dog boating?
I decided to take the boat out since the weather was nice and its going to snow tomorrow. My dog is 14 weeks old so I decided to take hime boating with me and see he reacted it. He LOVED it! I was amazed at how much he enjoyed being on the boat. He sat up in the bow and barked at all the ducks swimming around. The next time I take him I'm going to take pictures.
My dog is now officialy my first mate and will be on every boating trip here out. Who else does the same? Got any pics?

We take our Lab, Sonny, as often as we can. He loves the boat and loves the water. Remember to take real water to drink, food, pooper baggies (oh yea, it'll happen) and toys. Oh, and don't take ahhell's dogs cause they'll pee on everyone at the sandbar.

So do labs in general like water? Rocky is a lab mix. I haven't let him go in the water yet but he'll get many chances this summer.

We never go without our dog. She loves the water & the boat. Sometimes other people are not as fond of dogs as you. As long as your dog is not a fighter, take em with.

I used to have a dog that loved the river and riding in the boat. It was a german shepard mix. I really miss that dog. :( She was the perfect dog IMO.

In general, yes. When we picked him out of the litter the breeder took him out in the yard and tossed a ball. He went for it right away and she said he'd be a retriever from then on. He swims in our pool when ever he wants, he can even open the gate between the yard and pool areas.
When they're young they try to jump out of the boat and swim in the middle of the river or lake. That's when it gets fun trying t get them back in the boat.
Sonny just sits in a seat or under the dash board then gets out when we get out and it's cool. It's just hard to go into a bar with your dog.

Sounds like n exact description of Rocky. The night I brought him home he was already playing fetch. He wanted to jump out of the boat but I had him on a leash because I dont know how well his swimming abilities are not to mention I am petrified of the idea of my dog jumping out of the boat with a prop spinning at high speeds directly behind it. Once I know he can swim well I will probably let him swim along side the boat but it's going to be a while before that happens.

Sonny would swim until we made him come back to shore, then he'd feel the pain later that night or the next morning and walk like he had rickets or something. We like camping at Moabi on a penninsula because he can just do his thing without a chain or leash. He just kicks back with us and has fun. swims...plays catch...hunts rocks...

We have a Lab-Rotty mix, ( he's a rotten lab :) ) loves the water. Had him with us last year up at lake Silverwood. We're crusing around having a good time. This Seadoo breaks down and waves for help. So we stop. It's a guy and two girls, they're Asian and only the guy speaks english. They climb in the boat for the ride back. The girls are wearing 4 inch thick shoes and had trouble getting in. So we take them back and all is well.
Later, I make some comment to my GF about Japanese fasion, 4 inch shoes and all. She says " I think they were Korean"
I wouldn't know the difference and asked "How do you know?"
she said " Didn't you see how they were looking at the dog?"

We haven't taken ours on our boat yet. They don't scratch it getting in and out?
We have two labs, but I can't take my male because for some reason, everywhere we go it's the same story.
I keep my dog on a leash, or tied to the trailer and some other guy lets his dog roam (not a big deal) and his or her dog always wants to come up and start shit with my dog. I swear, he just stands there sniffing stuff and being semi-cool and the other dog attacks. We break up the fight and do you think the other assholes will tie their dog up, since there's a problem?? Nope.
So I don't take him anywhere anymore--poor guy:(

I dunno about scratching the boat because he's small enough right now that I pick him up and put him in the boat. Even when he's bigger I dont think it will be a problem as long as I keep his nails trimmed. He just better not walk on anyones deck ;)

Our dog goes with us everytime. You do have to be careful of them scratching the gel coat though. I lay down a wet towel from him to walk on when he jumps out of the boat. I have problems with my dog fighting too. He's not a mean dog, but he is dominant. We always keep him on a leash or tied to the boat. It's always other dogs that are running around loose. He's protective of his toys so if another dog comes around, look out. I always keep an eye out for other dogs coming our way and I warn people who bring there dogs over. Here's a few pics.

I tried taking my dog to the river....the dalmation wont swim but will walk around butt deep in the water. She actually uses her front feet to walk around and lets her butt float (feet not touching the ground)

the lab will get in the water and will not come out until he is about to drown....he is afriad that if he comes back to the beach then he might have to come home. This dog loves water so much that he has eaten through a hose and dug up sprinklers......eating the pipe...to get to the water.......
water is like crack for a Lab!

Our Golden retreiver, Abbigale, loves the boat. We take her with us sometimes, but not always. It depends on if there are other people with us or not, since she can be a handful on a smaller boat like mine. A big issue with her is that when she comes back on board, her longer hair carries so much water, and when she shakes it is everywhere. Her feet also track in so much sand/mud that it is a nightmare to clean after.
Regardless we still take her sometimes....
We also have a harness on her like Matt has, so we can lift her into the boat after she is done swimming without hurting our girl...

Our dog loves the water and boating and camping. With our old little boat he would sit up under the drivers consol, by Mr. Screams feet. When he was a puppy, he would try to jump out when the boat was moving (got to watch them as puppies) Now he just sits with his head out the side, or as close to me as possible.
At the sandbar, he is friendly, always playing, stealing other dogs toys. It is like he HAS to PLAY! He will come trotting up with some other dogs toy... Mr. Scream has to lift him in and out of the boat, after washing his paws (mud) He has been in a hurry to get out of the boat, and jumped and scratched the bow. I think the new boat will be easier, with the swim step and towels covering the engine cover.
At camp, he runs around and plays, never wanders off. At Park Moabi, we don't need to keep him on a leash, he just stays in our cove. He is territorial at home and at the campsite, and doesn't get along with other dogs as well. He is fine on neutural ground. Our other dog taught him some bad manners, I think. When he was a puppy our friends had a puppy and they had so much fun playing. Try to go boating with other people with puppies and dogs. (just not AHHELL's dogs, cause they pee on everything, and chase my dog. My dog chases the frizbee, Ahhells dogs, chase my dog, barking the whole time. but his new dog is cute and small enough to fit in your purse)
When people get tired of playing with Sonny, and they do, he goes underwater and picks up rocks and brings them up on the beach. Does anyone elses dog do this? If you throw a rock, he will stick his head under water and look for that rock, because he can't smell the rock underwater, he gets real close, and looks at the rock.
At the end of the day, he can barely crawl into the motorhome, he is so tired.
I can't wait to see how he likes the new boat, with a comfy bench seat in the cuddy cabin, just for him.....

We take our Lab Tahoe as much as possible. She loves the water! Like someone else said earlier, it is like crack for her. She will swim until she drowns. I have to keep an eye on her. She is just OK with other dogs. She is kinda of ALPHA female. We generally have to keep her busy around other peoples dogs. Sometimes we leave her home so we can relax. She requires lots of attention. Towels and discipline keep her off the gelcoat and seats.

We like to bring our lab out on the lake with us, but since he's gotten to dam big. I couldn't lift him in the boat anymore. That's one of the reasons why I sold the 34 Magic and ordered a deck boat. Friends joked that I should of just gotten a smaller dog. No way, that dog just cost me $50K :D

We bring ours with us on the boat. He did not like it at first, but now he's stoked to go. When it's mid summer and 115+ outside, he knows that it miserable in the boat and heat - sometimes he prefers to stay in the air conditioning all day and sleep.

My dogs love the boat, and get very pissed when we leave them at the house, which is very rare. The only thing they dont like is when we start the boat. When we first got the oldest dog i took him out in the boat we were just idlying aroung and hes sitting in the seat next to me. Next thing I know is he jumps over... I'm all OH F**K!!! Kill the engine grap the rope and go in after him. I get him back in the boat and he does the shake off thing, then jumps back in the water.

My wife and I are going to Cottonwood this weekend-leaving about 2pm friday. We have taken our dog, " Bozo " with us camping before, but he has never been on a boat. Since we took delivery of our new boat in March, whenever I so much as take the cover off it to show someone, or listen to tunes and have a few brews, he gets clingy and mopes around the house!! Add to that getting out the suitcases- and we have a full blown depressive episode!! We have taken him to Pismo camping, and he loves the water!! He will stick his head under the water to get shells and rocks to play with, and he LOVES seaweed!! You pick up some seaweed, and he will chase you down and shread the seaweed. I went to Petsmart and got him the Mutt-lucks for his paws!!!
