Safeco won't write my new boat policy cuz it has too much horsepower (Waaawaaah, those crybabies)
Anyway please tell me who to call..
I got a quote from Progressive for $753 for a year. Is that any good? Its for a 2003 Lavey 21 with a 496 HO, (425 HP).

AAA quoted me $756/year just last week.
I'm paying roughly that with One Beacon right now.
I thought it w as high until I started shopping around. Progressive was to be my next call, I'll save myself the trouble now! Since I have the same boat and all.... ;)

I don't know alot about those high end boats like ya'all have nut for my 21' Malibu wakeboard boat w/ 325 hp, BoatUS.com is $421. I've been a AAA member for 20+ years and they wanted $700+ for my boat, they were $500 higher than Farmers for my vehicles and about $300+ higher than my current insurance for my home....
I love AAA's service when I need them but they've never been in the ballpark for me on insurance stuff....

They told me if the boat was 26 or bigger then it would be lower. It is the hull length in relation to the horsepower that was the issue for Safeco.

I got my policy for the Carrera through Progressive, I'm paying roughly $560.00 a year, I have my Auto and Home with AAA so I called them for a quote, they wanted $625.00 a year, not a big difference (not even two full tank fulls) in money but needless to say AAA didn't get my Boat policy.
In regards to Progressive the policy covers the Trailer were the AAA didn't  Progressive covers anybody driving the boat AAA only covers the irma-nator and I  and AAA wouldn't give me a full replacement value, Progressive did ???

I don't know who our boat is insured thru or the HP or any really important information that could help you but I do know we pay less than $500/year for ours.
Hope that helps! :p

Progressive made us a good deal on our new Cobra. Even sent us a refund when they realized the broker had input it as an outboard instead of i/o. An honest insurance company, go figure. :)

I'd definately give Devin a call, just got mine insured throgh him with Foremost Family Boating Ins. Progressive wanted $1500 to renew, I paid $1,035 with Devin. AAA wanted $975 but Devin had some nice coverage, plus a discount for taking a boater's course. I'm in a 2002 26' Cat, 496 Mag.

Hey Char,
If you don't mind me asking, how much did insurance on your cat run? Jason wants a cat (ok, I do too) but the insurance factor is one of the things holding us back.

Well, I guess I'd better keep my fingers crossed. It's only been a couple of weeks since I got it.

I just renewed my policy with Progressive for $526 a year, full cash value - 2001 Advantage Citation 22' w/496HO. Try Alternative Insurance Agency out of Corona, 909/280-9999. They rep the Progressive product. Did experience an increase this year (go figure), but they were still a couple of hundred dollars less than the others I had quote.

That makes sense because LaveyBob is paying a lot less than me, with the same agent and company! He's got the 26 w/ the HO, and is paying in the 500s.

Anyone else have progressive pull some scheisty shit on them? I originally got my policy with progressive and it was $240 a year. I recently checked with progressive on auto insurance and they pulled my driving record over 5 years :jawdrop: and well it's been clean for 3 but those 2 years before :jawdrop: They wanted $360 a month to insure my Durango!! My boat policy was coming up for renewal and my new quote was $485 a year! That may not seem like much but a boat with V6 power and replacement value of 20k!! WTF!!
I'll be finding a new company soon. Sure the boat is only costing me $40 a month right now to insure but I KNOW I can get it insured much cheaper elsewhere.

Get a 'stated value policy'.
Stay away from AAA as they do not cover you from Lake Mojave to Palos Verdes Dam. (a little north of Blythe). If you do get any coverage from them it's with a secondary carrier and that's always iffy.

Ps- did you ever get the dumptruck registered?
I cannot find the file with the dumptruck info in it so I have not. We still drive it a couple of times a week, so far no problems.

That wasn't true when I had my 18' Hawaiian with them. They asked where I would use the boat, I said "everywhere". They asked if I'd be going to the river, Parker or Havasu specifically. I said, "maybe" (in truth, hell yeah I was using it there - but I played it cool). She was hesitant, and I asked why. She said that AAA doesn't "like" to cover boats in those areas. I said asked what that meant. She said as a rule they say they don't write policies for boats that only use those areas, but if they write you a policy and you go there, they can't legally not cover you. BUT she said they might drop you if you make one claim for that area. I said that was fine, they could drop me if that happened, as long as they cover the claim first! I took the policy on those terms.
Now maybe they are writing some specific exemption into the policy you sign, but I doubt it. they are probably just scaring people with their tactics to discourage you from going to places they consider high risk.
Although, now that I think about it, it's something they seem to tell the small jetboats more. I just got a quote on my Lavey, which is registered in Az, and they never asked where I use it.

Good Luck,
Progressive was the cheapest for me. AAA couldn't beat them. I used to have BOAT U.S. but they jacked the rate this year...there is no loyalty anymore.
Dude,
I was trying to steer you toward the Essex 350 mag like I have since it is 300 hp and doesn't drink the fuel like that 496. Oh, well make some more magic and break out the dough.

Many of you guys I know and you have covered engine compartments and through transom exhaust which lowers the rate. In my case I have the open engine compartment with the over the top headers.
Well, Progressive just sent me the "Dear John" letter letting me know that they are no longer going to cover me because of the headers and engine exposure. I have until the end of the month to secure new insurance. I was only paying around $200-250 a year with Progressive. Does any one have a recommendation for a reasonable replacement company?

Is there anyone that specifically does boats Like Eliminator Daytonas? I know people say they got covered but when I call and even say Eliminator Daytona its NO. And I haven't even told them the size, motor, my name or anything.
I can get insured, but when they here its an Eliminator Daytona it's OOPS we dont do those! Sorry.
Im gonna try the State Farm peeps again after they said NO, and explain it has a center pod/Middle V/ tri-hull or whatever like others have posted.
I'm paying 1300 now for Non Navigational as Im not even using it and the next best quote was 1256, and my record is perfect, took boaters safety courses bla bla bla.
Almost every company I've seen listed in these boards has said NO. All I say is "Can You insure an Eliminator Daytona?" Answer......NO. V-Hull yes. Daytona NO.
As much as I love Tunnel boats for the last 16 years, I'm thinking something like a Tunnel V Open bow or something else.
Also anyone know any Surveyors that will actually show up and not stiff you 3 times after driving 1 1/2 hours to meet the guy half way??.........and then never even gives the info to the Ins Company?
Thanks for any info.

Lots of companies canceling over the transom exhaust boats. I had insured my 18' v-drive with 750HP and over the transom headers for $2,800/yr. $2,000 was for liability alone. Even with that, got cancled by State Farm - and I even had a $5 million PLUP.
