I am going to Mira Loma on Thursday. Making a cannonball run from Norcal but I am not too familiar with the nuances of L.A.
Mapquest says go 5 to 210 to 71 to 60. I will be arriving around noon and leaving shorthly thereafter. Is there "anything" I should know about these routes? i.e. alternate routes?? Or will I be alright?
Also if time permits can I use Castaic Lake or Pyramid Lake for a quick test run? (anyone gonna be out there?)
Thanks in advance for your help.
gonna pick up this:

Directions are not that easy. The 210 Fwy, you will have to navigate through Pasadena, stay on the right side. You will have to take the 57 Fwy South to get to the 71 Fwy. You will have some stop lights on the 71 before you get to the 60. That being said, you will not be near those 2 lakes, except when your coming and going. Good luck.

Dave C, Once you get on the 210 (east), stay on it,
pass the 57 frwy until you get to the 15 freeway. Take the 15 southbound toward ontario/corona. You'll pass the 10 freeway then the 60. If youre going to Eliminator, take the 60 east bound. Eliminator is on the right hand side, two or three exits. The 210 flys, not crowded at all, just watch out for the CHP

Thanks for the info, also. I'm headed to Solvang from Tucson on Thursday. Was planning on the 210 west bound.

Just drove that stretch today--was at Santa Anita Park...210e, 57s to the 60 and onward to 5 went smooth and traffic free at 4-5pm. 15 had major problems today, especially around Corona.

If you're on the 101 freeway and you're anywhere near King City BE-A-WARE! That area is the #1 speed trap in all of California. The CHP use airplanes and everything else they can throw at you. It's a cash cow for them and the state. Big time tickets. Avoid the 101 freeway anywhere near King City.

Thanks guys. I am used to heavy traffic so its no big deal for me.
Gonna use I5 and not 101.
Is there a speed limit at those lakes? Really?... that sucks. maybe I won't use them.
wifey has relatives in Solvang. I hear its an "interesting" place but never been there.

Lake Elsinore has a legal speed zone where you can go fast if you use your head. :)
The so cal builders do a lot of their testing there during the week.

Avoid the 101 in LA county at ALL cost. Come back the 210 to the 5 and take 126 thru Piru and Santa paula to hit the 101 ABOVE Ventura. Solvang tthis weekend? Good Luck.

Puddingstone isn't large enough to get your boat on plane. The only thing you can do at puddingstone are donuts.

gonna pick up this:
Castaic has a 35 mph speed limit, which is strictly enforced. However, I was able to get a couple speed runs in late in the evening last time out. I was told Pyramid will not be open until after 4th of July last time I checked.

Thanks Aquaboogie!
Looks like I won't use those lakes.
I saw those lake on a map near I5 and said "perfect" I can make a run on the water. I knew it was too good to be true!...;)
damn tourists!;)
thanks everyone for the heads up on the speed traps. Going from Norcal to LA we use I 5 since its faster.
If I go to Elsinore I might not make it back home. I need to go 840 miles roundtrip in one day, 1/2 the way towing a boat. Images of cannonball run come to mind. :D

If you do that make sure you go on a day that is boats and not jet skis. Also, have fun going around in a circle, boat merry-go-round !!

Thanks for the info, it appreciated.
Actually, I'm doing the same thing Dave C is, picking up a boat. I plan on being on the road heading back to AZ at the crack of dawn on Friday. I get to work this weekend with a new to me boat setting in the garage. :D

Congrats on getting the new boat. Put up soem new pics once you get them..
Castaic isn't too bad to go to if you just want to test things out. You can probably get away with a 40MPH or so pass if you are back towards the end of the lake and the lifeguards aren't around....

Today, Puddingstone is a Boat day, 26th even number. Thursday will be a Jet-Ski day, 27th odd.
