Who's got the hook-up on a custom boat shelter company. Looking for someone to travel to the 805. Said cover needs to hold-up to wind as well as rain.

I put up one in my boat storage area. It ended up costing me about $450 or so I think. Depends on what kind of shelter you are talking about, but the one I got was a gable roof 12x30 with a tarp over it. I also ordered the side walls and ends, one with zippered door. It worked out very nicely... boat was snug and dry after a pretty good rainy season up there.

Here's my experience so far.
We wanted a cheap alternative for covering 2 boats and 2 motorhomes. Keep in mind this is in Hesperia which is equalled in windiness only to Patagonia...
We settled on 20 x 40 cannopys with Heavy Duty tarp, poles, yada yada yada.
We sank sonna tubes 12 inches in the ground and 12 inches above, installed sleeves to accept the poles and got everything ready. 1 case of beer
We bought some rope and used it instead of the bungees. Drank some beer. Installed the first cannopy. Drank some beer.
Next weekend, getting ready to go up and do some work, ahhell noticed the tarp had begun to rip next to the grometts. SHIT. Drink more beer
Within a week and a half, the tarp is gonesville and now we've got two nice sturdy tubular frames with nuthin on them.
Next we're thinking of using corregated metal siding. If that doesn't work, we're screwed

Scream, shoulda used the bungee balls. The rope is too rigid and makes the tarp flutter in the wind.
MIne has been there all winter through the wind storms and rain. Looks new. Ususally have to change the tarp in fall, the sun really does them in. Otherwise I put the frame on the slab, drilled in lead sheilds with eye bolts and used 3/16 cable, clamps and turnbuckles to keep it down. Worked like a charm.

A "true custom cover" is one that's built by the owner!! ;)
Oh, sorry that's another thread. :)

Hey DE
We had two tarps. The second one got put on with the bungees and did last a bit longer, but Patagonia being what it is that blew away just a week or two later.
I hope the metal roof thing works, cause we've spend too much money to go back now...This is turning into a quest.

It started at a 10' x 30' canopy that was about $450 when we started, but my side yard is a little strange. So, he had to cut and shape it to 9'4" by 30'. Also, I changed from an 'A' frame to a Gable style. It has 17/8" pipe with HD components and a tie offs for the cover. It cost me $683. If you can wait until this weekend, I can take a picture of it.
Let me know

Laserray and GJB,
If you can access your eaves on your house to hang a canopy the cost will go down and, IMHO, it will look cleaner too. It will attached kind of like what Redneckgirl posted. It allows you more space too.

Scream and Ahhell, the only thing that will hold up to the HD winds is a real stick and stucco garage. Ya'll know that

If you are looking for a strong all metal structure, try calling Quick Covers in Riverside County @ (909) 928-6696. They did not build my cover, but I picked up parts to extend it. They should be able to point you in the right direction. Mike

LOL! Funny you say that, my friend is nearing completion of his "True Custom Home" in Yucca Valley. He's been working on it for a year. I just visited a couple of weeks ago, it's AWESOME. It's taken every spare minute of his time though.

about building boatports in gale force wind....
i watched ahell and scream attempt this on more than one weekend.
it's not for the faint at heart or elderly!!
there was plenty of cussing and moaning, and more than a little beer drinking. maybe the amount of beer drinking has something to do with the difficulties (just a thought)... they finally did get it up, but it did't last in the wind. for anyone contemplating shed building in a windy territory don't, waste your money, think rental storage.

I thought your back "yard" is rental storage.........it's big enough for half the boats on the river at any given time........

What does something like that cost? Will it hold up in HD winds?
