Yes, thanks for bring that up Hammerdown, I think most of us forget and just enjoy our days off. But, really...we live in the best country, where people will go out and lose their lives just so we can enjoy our day off or long weekends on the water.

Thanks for the thread.
I kinda wish "Memorial" day, or it's significance, happened every day with Americans.

I am deeply indebted to those who served and died for my liberty.

Read a book on IWO JIMA, we were on Japans front doorstep and they fought us savagely. There were several incidents of our guys jumping on hand grenades to save their buddies in a foxhole, unlike the movies, it REALLY happened. People really did these kind of things for thier fellow soldiers and their country.
I don't understand how some can call a pro football player or baseball player a hero. Thank God for our soldiers.

I went to the Dodger game last night and everyone stood and showed respect (nice surprise) during the singing of God Bless America and the Star Spangled Banner. It was moving to be singing those songs on a beautiful day at the ballpark. I thought about the millions who have made the ultimate sacrifice for this country in its brief 228 year history. And I thought about those courageous servicemen and women who are serving this country now. I also thought about 9/11 and how we're still at war and how I won't forget that our enemies would love to attack us again and again.
And then I thought about Al Gore's recent speech and what it might mean if Kerry gets elected so I started to get pissed off. So I ordered some cold beers to cheer myself up.

I got to work this morning and the dispatcher I'm relieving starts talking about stuff that needs to get done today (like it's a normal business day). I tell her that it's a holliday and no one will be in.
"Oh", she says, "I don't even know what this day is for. Isn't it about barbeque's and partying??"
I just look at her.
"I was told it was about dead people, but I don't have anyone in my family that is dead" and she laughs...
Sometimes I have to wonder about my generation. Man, some people are so out of touch.
My Grandfather and Uncle were in the Navy. I have a cousin, a Marine, who this minute is enroute to Iraq (for the second time). God bless all of our men and women in uniform, both past and present, living and dead. We owe a debt that a single day of remebrance can never repay.
