Ya know, I broke two Harlan Sharps at the trunion as well. Separate occurrances. Both resulted in stripped keepers and sucked valves. Replaced the first one with another extra HS, and then switched to Crower rollers and dug them the most.
Did you have any problems with the adjustment nuts backing off on you???
Nope, stud girdles keep that in check pretty good.
Smokin, Hey I'm not bagging on your engine or parts. Just telling you what has happend to me. Yes, after they break it's to late. You should see the trunions on these Clay Smith rockers, they are twice as big! Comp Cams makes some nice big ones too. It cost me a lot of money to get to the point of only buying the best parts I can. Lots of people run budget rods and have good luck, I'll stick with my carillos.
yea I would say if your going to build a engine that is a lot of hp and turn big rpms you should only have the best moneny can buy.no dout about it. thats why racers have sponcers 'lol' it takes alot of frog skins or you could be independently wealthy

Stay away from the gear drive. Imagine all the explosions occuring at the top of your pistons. Now transfer these shockwaves right through those gears and let them shake apart your valve train, that is what gear drives do. A high quality double roller chain will help with this and a belt drive will elimanate it completly. With the big cam you are running I would strongly consider the investment of a belt drive. Those Harland Sharpes got to go. Better than cast for street applications but light duty.
