rileys ride:
Going to look at a 95 22 foot Scarab this weekend have a Sanger flat, looking for different kicks. The boat is stock 454 stock everbody, claims 70 mph supposed to be in great shape with tandom trailer. The guy wants 19,500 said it has 350 hours on it. Can I get more mph for a meager investmemt,I KNOW SPEED costs. Good buy bad buy...
Ken in  Mich..What is this thing worth in the west? If you don't like the boat I know someone with the same boat but with 350 in it. I know you could buy this boat cheaper then 19,500. Let me know I will try to get some pics

I. HAVE A 95 SCARAB 22 HO b&m 174 LIGHTING HEADERS
RED CARB. 28 MACH PULLING HARD AT 75 BUT REAL LOOSE WORKING ON TIGHTING UP THE HANDLING HOPE TO SEE THE TOP REAL SOON phat phil, let me know what you are doing to tighten up your handling. My boat is real similar to yours except it is a 21 & sounds almost exactly what mine is doing at the same speed. I haven't had it out much yet but dropping the tabs slightly shaves off 1-2 MPH & I need to play with that some more to feel if it tightens mine up.I also know I have a 1/4 inch slop in the steering cable that needs attention & haven't figured out what to do about that yet.
If you find something that helps the handling let me know.

I have a 85 scarab 1 with a 502 mpi mag - gps clocked it at 74.8 - but the boat is real loose at that point. If anybody has any ideas please post. I do have IMCO external steering kit and it helped a lot. Wellcraft said the boat weighs 3800 with a small block. I'm not sure how much more with the BB and Bravo 1. I'm thinking about adding trim tabs (Lenco 12x12). Any thoughts (good or bad) or other options ? Thanks!

supersoaker466, I bet with the BBC your now at 4000 LBS. I have the Lenco 12 X 12 racing tabs & really like them, but they will shave of around 1-3 MPH. What prop do you have?

I currently have a 1996 Scarab 454..Bravo 3..mirage 23p ss prop...Loadrite trailer...approx. 125 hours on boat. The trailer has a powerwinch. I am looking to sell it around 15,000.00. eek! If interested I will be able to take pictures for you to see! The boat is in good condition...and was enjoyed alot. Reason selling I am moving up in size!
PS Anyone know where I can get a 24-28' Cigarette?

gnarley, I'm running a bravo 1 24p I don't mind losing 1 or 2 mph if the boat will handle better. I also need to try a 3 blade prop 26p to lower rpms and lessen the stern lift. I'm tacking 5400 hitting the rev limiter. Thanks for the info on the tabs. Any other info or suggestions on tabs or props would be greatly appreciated

Michael.A.Baiocco@wawa.com There are a lot of 28SS Cigs that can be found out there right now. You'll have a tough time finding anything smaller than that.

i have a 1998 22 scarab 7.4 carb 27p mirage with the stock rev limiter. the boat runs on GPS 79.8 mph at only 5025 rpms. if anyone can help me disable or change the rev limiter to a higher rpm, i would like to see waht the boat can pull up to 5500 rpms.
the rev limiter is killing me top end speed. i also use a 26p 4 blade that pushes the boat at 72.2 mph hitting the rev limiter.
any help on the rev limiter would be great.

I have a 95 22 scarab, same set up with the 7.4 mpi. I've been able to get it the 62mph with a 23p prop. Up to 57 mph with the 21p prop. The boat is well worth the money!
