Del51 has a good point, which I think Froggystyle mentioned also...shock factor.
If you only consider steady state loading (hp) and don't consider shock or transient loading for a lake jet, then you may well end up paying big $$$ in a trashed housing...amoung other things. I know in the heat of a "lake" race, I rarely lift and the Dragn gets airborne plenty off the rollers. The comfort of knowing my impeller's SS is worth the extra $'s. Especially for a part so critical to pump life and safety.

Ok, the Jetboatguru is here. In 30 years of dealing with Jet pumps I can honestly tell you that Chet Capoli has been taking long slow rifts with a crack pipe. Sure our boy Racing Rascal could use a bronze or aluminum impeller, but why? This guy craps $100 dollar bills. He was merely trying to get feedback and now there is a border squirmish. I have assembled and disassembled more jet pumps than Carters has pills. So go with the stainless and call it good. Dick Danger Out OOOPs. thats not me

Jacuzer, you bring up an interesting point. However when you get into the "racing scene" these guys would rather listen to whomever becuase they did something great once then an engineer that spent years learning about this sort of stuff. You are absolutely right though!! There is ALOT of room for improvement in the current design of jets..
WHO HERE DOESN'T HAVE A LEAKY JET?
WHO HERE DOESN'T HAVE A LEAKY JET WITH A SETBACK INSTALLATION?
That kind of sh*t is so easily fixed if anyone would take the time to "engineer it." I feel sorry for you jet guys having to deal with all the "rumors" and this guys knows wassup etc... Frankly from what I can see a Jet really isn't that complicated and I have access to a lathe so if I owned one I don't think I would listen to anyone except My tach and My GPS as far as the actual impeller is concerned. The only place I would look for help is "setup" for the hull I.E. more lift less lift..
Chet, I'm not taking sides here but why the "F" would anyone run a Bronze impeller when they sell a stainless one? Jesus if you guys are really making that kinda horsepower (that's a conversation for another time http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif) I think the impeller would be a "drop in the bucket" so to speak..

Dave, I can tell you this and maybe our jetboatguru can back me up on this. being into the drag racing thing I see stuff like this all the time where some hitec engineer comes up with a great idea for the racing world only to be shot down by the racers because there has been no testing on it. now keep in mind I am talking about drag racing here and unlike the boating world we cant just go to any track and make a couple pass's without having track officials and the EMT's on hand so it takes quite a bit of money to test these parts on a race car and I dont know to many racers that are willing to try new parts on there cars when you only get three chances of making the show anyway. Back to the jet thing, my point is I dont think most of these guys are willing to put the time and money into R&D when they are doing just fine as they are. The racing world was at one time a working R&D for everyone and it is so competative now days everyone seems to be scarded to get away from what they know works, and I am talking about boat racing here also. now if anyone would like to try there parts out on the ol' Hustler I'de be more than willing, just keep in mind that she is pretty heavy and not alot of HP wich I guess if you make the hustler move I'm sure you can make anything move http://free.***boat.net/ubb/tongue.gif

Yeah, it would be a shame for the ole Hustler to get beat by a bigger, heavier boat with a smaller engine...

It's a shame that with the wealth of opportunities that are available RIGHT HERE! No one will step up to see even WHAT CAN BE DONE with today's technologies.. I'm not even say sign on the dotted line, but not one Jet "Guru" has gotten a hold of me to see how easy it could be to "develop" new products for a jet..
Oh well back to props for ole Johnson... http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

We fear that which we do not understand....
Sorry Dave. I don't know enough about pump physics to help. All I know is, I'm sure it can be improved upon.

I seem to recall HBjet mentioning an unblown jet from the left coast qualifying #1 in 6 sec class against blown jets and hydros(props!) back east. Sounds like somebody is working on it. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gifBTW, no leaky jet here!

Ok JBG,
And how might this be?? Speak up boy! All I suggested was that he should look into bronze..something wrong with that?? I really dont know how this snowballed like it did to be honest(i have an idea). Like i stated before, if he has the money(which he must)he should buy the SS.
As i also said before..2 seasons on aluminum in a LAKE BOAT and no problems.,
Chet

I have no doubt that the guys boat is fast and his Jet is probably worked to the stops.. but how does that help any of you guys? Besides I would say that in that particular case he probably had one hell of an engine builder and alot more R & D went into making the motor then in the jet.. However I dunno for sure becuase I don't know who the guy is and I've never talked to him... If he has a "winning" combination though and he'd like to produce it tell him I'm around and that's what I do!
