I just bought my first flatbottom - a Frahs- and already I'm thinking of summer. Can anyone tell me of good spots to run a flatbottom without getting hassled in or near western MA.?

Are ya worried about...
Noise????
Speed????
Being hasseled about the bare titties in the passenger seat????
We need more info and PICS of bare titties---->before we can help ya....
Be good, Jim
Only noise and speed - breasts never trouble, unless they belong to someone other than our significant others.
Seriously, I get stopped for antique boats that we run being to loud in western MA. We fired up a 280 hydro that we rebuilt to test the engine, and we were escorted off the ramp in 15 minutes.
Are there any flatbottoms running in the northeast???? There must be someone from NH or eastern NY?
I'm about 60 miles west of Albany, not running a flat
but a V bottom V-drive Cole SS.Noise is a issue in
NY you need mufflers at all the lakes I go to,and
some have speed limits.
Skeeter
In Connecticut they just don't allow cooking of food on the fire coming out of the pipes....
Anyone know of good spots to go on the Hudson or Connecticut rivers?
BWB,
I live in Greenfield, run on the Conn. river out of barton's cove with my jet and have had on issues as of yet. My bud has a 75 hondo 5/8" runner bottom w/ 468 bbc, over transom headers, and has not had any trouble either. Just need to obey the no wake zone leaving the ramp and you shouldn't have any problems. My jet has thru transom w/ logs, The hondo has baffels and water injection. Shoot me an e-mail at home and maybe we can get together this summer. Always looking for someone else with similar boats to hang with.

I knew there had to be a few v-drives and flatbottoms around here!
A couple ramps in Portland CT and a ramp in Higganum on the CT river. Camping on the island in Haddam, beach in Cromwell called the Peninsula and and Island just north of the Peninsula where all the boats hang out.
Anyone know of good places on the CT. river near Northampton/Springfield; or on the Hudson near Albany, NY?
I Run My Tahiti Jet With Open Bassetts On The Merrimack River In Lowell Ma. Every Weekend All Summer, No Problems!!!
just coming in to say hi,i have a stevens flat and another member who goes by
leadsledmerc also has one.both of these boats are new to us and this will be our first summer also,we would also like to know of some good water out here,we are both loated near cape canal but willing to tow on weekends
quick pic
If anyone is interested, we should plan a meet this summer. I own a boat restoration shop in Pittsfield, MA and we have a Frahs and a Kachina jet boat we are restoring. We are trying to get this area a little more interested in v-drives and jet boats, and will be buying a few more from the other coast this spring to offer of sale - at reasonable prices. We would really like to build some new wooden and composite hulls, but figure the best way to do it is to introduce the public to successful fiberglass designs first.
There are a couple of really experienced v-drive "retired" racers in the northeast that we could probably twist their arms and drag them out for a weekend - teach some of us newbees how to use a v-drive.
Just a thought.
I am hoping to have my jet running again this summer...
Do you actually work on jets out there?

great idea
we'll meet in CT.
We are working on jets and v-drive stuff. Hull, wiring, insturments and mechanical work. At the moment, we are sending most of the major drive components out to be serviced, but that will change by summer. As we get more work through the shop, our contacts improve and we are able to work with better suppliers.
I am not fishing for work - we are really busy with our antique boat restorations. If you want to call us for info, contacts, have a question you need answered, want us to take a look at a boat problem - no problem and no charge.
If you want us to do the work for you- we can talk about that!

You better get your ass in gear.
I'm back on track after last week's speedbump. Got that block outside and washed the sand out of it. The first day was 1 dustpan full. The next was 2 full dustpans full. Then whatever came out with the hose. Unfreakin believable. Got the back of the block painted and now I'm going to tape and prime the rest.

You got a lot done even with that speedbump.
ordering rings and bearings this morning, painting the block this morning, bought a different oil pan,and I'm installing the new baseboard today
The snow is starting to melt. Maybe we will see open water by the end of April! Everyone getting set for our three month season?!
The river is clear down here already..
Snake- Hows it going with the big block over there?
You should come over and see. I have a big problem over here, the born on dates on my beer cans are in question.

Yes, that could be a major problem. I will be over this week to help with the beer cans.
Just when does everyone plan to meet up. My goal is to get wet by the end of May 07. I got the Brodix BB-2's on and now waiting for the smith bros push rods to come in. Once done with the motor then comes rigging and fuel tanks.

isn't Candlewood out that way?
No you are thinking of New Fairfield (that is in candlewood area).
Fairfield is right on Long Island sound about 50 miles from NYC by car.
Zoar is in Newtown-Monroe area.
Candlewood sucks, way too rough.

i run on saratoga lake ny , speed limit 45 {after a bad v-drive crash} but as long as you don't act like a idiot they leave me alone .i run bassetts with hp mufflers in a jet. spiers falls northern on the hudson is a great place to run its up near corinth ny 45 min north of albany. nyjetboat@yahoo.com
Hopefully we can get a group together. I've herd there is a place somewhere around the oxbow in North Hampton called the shallows where people get together quite often in the summer. My buddy with the v-drive just picked up a jet with a small block chevy in it that we are trying to put together, as well as putting side tanks in mine before is time to get wet this year. Looks like it will be a bit longer as we just got 3 inches of fresh snow last night.
First boat was out on Candlewood yesterday...I was putting up new planters on the deck and freezing my nuts off when out of the blue came a couple of hardy souls, they ran about a mile, turned around and went back.
I have done the mid winter ski thing in my younger day but not any more, the ice has hardly melted out there.

BWB I know a person who got his pe pe slapped for loud exhaust on Onota lake. Pontoosuc is just as bad. I live on Richmond Pond, my neighbors just luuvve me. Luckily the ramp isn't very user friendly, tough to get out, not big at all. It's neat to hear exhust echo off the tree lines
not sure about point, just my .02 recently installed stock mufflers back on boat, along with new mill from Zancanato Engines off Fenn St. Hoprfully cans will hold up.
Maybe I'll see ya around, love the old wooden boats w/ huge motors.
A great place to go is COGAMOND LAKES in Southwick Ma
