I'm looking at a boat with a 175 EFI that may need a new powerhead , it's 1998 I talked to a guy at Blackbird industries who said if I ship him the motor [ Florida ] he would install a new powerhead , break it in ad send it back with a 1 yr. warranty for $3850.00 . I talked to a local guy who would do the same for $5500.00 I'm in norcal what other options do I have ? Can I go with a 200hp powerhead and use the same lower unit ? Any opinions on this motor I've read a few posts on the EFI motors and the seamed a tad negative . Thanks

Florida is a long way from No. Cal. if you have problems with the guy who repairs the motor.
Think about how much shipping costs and if the guy will warranty the motor who pays for shipping.
I would think you can remove the 175 and drop on a 200 with no problem.
The motors are real easy to work on, $5500.00 is a major, major rebuild with lots of parts.

Blackbird has been known t skimp on parts and even reuse rings.
You have been warned.

I have not heard of them. A life time warranty on what?
I would read the fine print on that warranty. Now that TD mentioned it I do recall Blackbird.
Some people had problems with them, the short version is, Blackbird flew by took their money and took a shit on them.
