Can anyone tell me about what RPM should I be running @ WOT with a Ford 460? It is in a 18' Hallett with a jacuzzi 12YJ pump. It idles @ 800 rpm. There are no markings to use to time it so I am just playing it by ear. I am currently getting 4200 rpms. It has a mild cam, Edelbrock performer RPM intake and a Holley 750 carb, MSD distributor. Please Advise?????

It depends entirely on what impeller cut you are running and how much HP you are putting to it. My 8.5:1 454 with moderate cam, Air Gap intake, 700 Holley, points distrib, and headers spins the Agressor "B" in my Berk "F" 5,000 RPM. Idle is 850. That's 400 HP, which I consider not particularly "wild" for a NA 454.

I turn a 460 with a mild cam, weiand intake, 780 vac sec carb, full msd, decked block/stock heads and logs with an A cut berk JC 4500 rpms which is a tick over 60 mph, idle around 900 on a heavy '76 20ft Hallett semi V with diverter. I've never really tuned it, I like the way it runs and gets decent fuel economy. I've seen about 4800 with cranked timing and 100 octane, probably close to 65 mph.

That right there is probably playing a large part. If you don't know what your actual timing is, everything else is a guess too.
