Starting to plan my winter project. I'm going to stroke my 454 to a 489 or 496. I.m thinking of putting 200-250 NOS to it. Looking at Scat's website I see they have three 4340 gen 4 cranks. Standard weight, lightweight and a superlite. Which one would be best for a Jet boat motor?

Check out WWW.DYNO-FLO.COM. I bought a 4340 41/4 for the same price as the top line cat. They sell Cat, Scat,Eagle to name a few. No one comes close on there prices. I've built several engines with there help and have had excellant results. Super guys to deal with to. 702-597-0106

I would say it would depend on your max rpm range and budget. If you are in the 5-6k range and not into hollow dome pistons and tool steel wrist pins, andAluminum rods then standard is just fine. Not really that big of a weight savings unless you are racing and looking for every last performance advantage.

I just got off the phone with Scat. They recommended getting the standard weight crank.
