Thread: High oil pressure in Olds heads

Would like to know if anyone that currently has or has had 455 Olds engines in their rides run into issues with high oil volume into the heads. My breathers are getting absolutely saturated with oil, even with big splash guards on the covers. Need to know if this is common, and fixes if any. Thanks.

You are not alone! EVERYONE has this trouble with the 455s!!
There are many ways to help with this problem. Much internet text is devoted to just this issue. The fix seems to be the additions of oil restrictors. And, do NOT run a high volume oil pump, you already have more than enough. Some people work on modifications to help the rocker chambers drain.. I carry paper towls and basically do the denial thing. "Naw, its not leaking much. No no no, just keep looking ahead, don't look back in there..
Glastron Guy, I think that's what he goes as in this forum, ask him. He's solved this paticular delema in his 455 powered boat.

Are you running headers? Oil restrictors?

Thanks for the response, guys. Jim, no it does not have a high volume pump - engine relatively stock; didn't see a need for it. Just have a 10qt Milodon pan. GlastronGuy - no headers, just Nicson manifolds. I have heard of using restrictors in the heads; just didn't know to what extent I would need to go. Are there different size restrictor available, or are they a standard size? Don't want to choke off too much up top!!!

First of all, get this: http://www.mondellotwister.com/oldstek2.jpg
it can be had at http://www.mondellotwister.com/99cat.html
The restrictors go in the block under the crank journals. Olds is famous for putting way too much oil to the heads. I could go on and on about Olds, as can jim lee. The easiest fix, without headers, is to use a puke tank. You can get one from Summit for about $20.00 For some spirited discussion and a lot of great info, go here http://321website.com/members/forum/...e=realjetboats
