Right.
building a bbc, their is no gasket between the oil pump and the block right?
Right.
thanks!
You're welcome. And don't forget to put the oil pump drive in first.
another tip is to install the drive and pump while the engine is in its upright position. trying to line up the drive with the pump is much easier and less chance of the drive being missaligned. instead of the pump trying to find the shaft, you want the shaft to drop into the pump. once the pump and drive are secured, then you can turn the engine back over to install other hardware.
Sleekcraft 76, I hope that isn't an "out of the box" oil pump. Even the high dollar pumps leave a lot to be desired when it comes to internal tolerances. AND, use a drive with a steel collar where it joins the pump. AND, don't depend on the press in fit to keep the pick up in the pump, some weld it in, and some,me included, drill and tap the pump for a set screw or two to hold the pick up in. (some aftermarket pumps/pick ups are bolted to the pump cover, which works quite well.) Again check out the pump inside.....if you need info look in the "How to hotrod BBC book", and remember the oil pump is the "heart" of the motor.............MP
