I want to install an amp in my boat should I install a 4 channel for the speakers and a separate amp for the sub, or can I install a 5 channel. I have been looking at the JL audio 5 channel amp, is this my best choice.
The choice between multiple amps and a 5 channel amp really depends on your listening habits...
Th JL5005 is not a very boat friendly amp.. It's power is 100x2, 25x2, and 250 x1... Unless you're running 2 of them and the 25x2 channels power the cabin and bow area, OR you plan to run the amp in a 3 way mode..Highs mids and lows run from each pair of channels...

i have 3 set of jl marine speaker that is powered by JL300/4 and 3 10' subs powered JL500/1. this was recommed by cartoyz. my system rocks and very clean sound. the only thing i might redo is get a 450/4 to run the speakers.after the install, jp at cartoyz said i might want to go with the 450/4. i would go with 2 amps, one for the run your subs and the other to run your speakers. my 2 cent
Personally, I'd stay away from the 5 channel amp. Go with two amps. A more powerful 4 channel amp and a class D subwoofer amp

Yep, the 4504 runs 3 pair of speakers quite nicely
