Do yourself a big favor and get rid of the 450's. Get some 650 or 750 DP's.

Before I had DNE build me a new motor, I ran a 454 that was .30 over with rect port 990 heads that had zero head work. I had a Weiand tunnel ram, (2) Holley 450 single pumpers that DNE went through for $160 per carb (parts/labor/machine work) I had roller rockers and my cam was a Hydraulic Flat Tappet by Comp Cams and the lift was between .520-.550 (I don't remember exactly, it was some time ago) My V-bottom boat with a Berk JC bowl and a 1.5 blueprint with a Legend B impeller, rideplate, shoe and intake all done by MPD and 4-5 gallons of gas plus full interior it's best number on the GPS was 80.6 mph. The water and weather were also perfect for that day.
I think larger carbs are better off, but the question first should be can you meet the goal you have with your current carbs? If so, then save the money and put it towards something else. First thing I would do is decided if you want to keep an A impeller, or if you want it cut down to a B. When you figure that out, then decided on a cam.
FYI, my RPM's were around 5150 with that old motor.
