folks lkeep telling me a cat is ultra smooth, I currently run a twin 31' off shore V hull, on Kentucky Lake mostly, and am considering trading up to a newer boat.
I typically am in some 3' swells, expecially in the heavy boating season.
I am worried about the idea of getting on top of the water, vs cutting through it..
    your thoughs?

A 40' Skater will have no problems in 3' swells.

personally i think you should stick with what u feel comfortable with. every one has opioions and most of them are worth nothing. if you have some friends with the other hull try it and remember when you have other peoples lives in your hand(passangers) they and i want someone driving that has confidence and control and is completely comfortable driving it  just me .02 cents

Like Catered life I say you should test run a cat before you buy! 3 foot swells you should be alrite in a 25'er or bigger! V hulls are slower than cats or tunnels due to more drag! but v's have a better turning ability than cats! also cats will not cut though the waves like a v's they tend to nose in under certain cercumstances but I wouldn't think that would be a problem for Yah though! just gotta hit the waves rite! I wouldn't count out a cat du to 3 foot swells!!!

I'm thinking a 46' would offer a little smoother ride on those rough days.

    Good point.
A boat that size will need turbines to get some decent speed.

There is one on the website, no pics though and it's only a 40' that would fit that bill. Turbines and Arnesons would really eat up that rough water. Still not as good as a 46' but sometimes you have to make these compromises.
Engine: Twin GE T-58 Turbines, 1300hp
    Hours: Boat: 15, Turbines: 0
    Top Speed: 150+
    Asking: $349,900
    Additional Information:
    ASD-8 drives
    1/4 canopies
    Skater trailer
    Cover
    Rolla props
    Comments:
The boat has 15 hours on it, the turbines 0. It has been stored in an air conditioned, climate controlled room since new. The boat is perfect. It has been owned by one owner since new. Unbelievable value.

That is a good value....he better jump on it.
Perhaps a Top Kick to pull it with?
Also, he's gonna need a 21' Schiada as water taxi.
