I want to make a 17ft outboard into a jet boat. Any helpful hints or ideas?
Drive outboard to middle of lake,chop big hole in floor,sink outboard ,swim to shore,go to ultra,tom papp,or anyone of the others outthere and order a tunnel jet big block chevy,preferably with a blower,and never look back!!!! youll be so glad you did!

how much will the engine run me through ultra?
What kind of boat is it? I found a real good deal on a 19ft Liberator last spring that had a burnt up OB on it. I almost bought it to convert to a jet with a pump and motor I have in an old ugly boat. But furtunatly I called Liberator first and they told me the hulls/transoms are made differant for a jet and an OB. It would not work. So be sure and do some homework before you start cutting up your boat.
In my experiance on converting things over to something completly differant like that, it is almost always way cheeper in the long run to sell the one you have and buy something that is more like what you want. 17' Jet Boat = $5,500 if it's real nice! If it's been cut up and converted, I don't know $2,500???

jet4life. I did what you want to do. paid 1200. for a sleekcraft KAUI, with a 150 merc. with a missing power head. now it has a berk 12jg pump with a 406 stroked 351c. been having it now for 16 years now. I am satisfied. I have always liked buying things that were basket cases so when I do it up I know what I have.
