Thread: Kachina build up from start to finish

    here is what the pump is going to look like.......I started with aircraft stripper and a paint scraper. Then I used a 50 grit sanding wheel on a variable speed grinder, YOu have to keep the grinder on slow speed and in motion to avoid flat spots.. Once I got the paint off I then switched to a palm sander. I went from 80,120,160,220, now its polisher time.

    No sweat. I will have evrything from back seat to the dash finished tonight. I should have the jet rebuilt and installed by saturday.

    396 what do you use to keep it polished or do you coat it with something?Have you seen the new chrome powdercoat yet?It looks almost as good as the polished stuff that you did.Nice looking project.

    Man that looks killer Mike. I just did my leak test Saturday and Sunday (today) at 1:30am I was at Saguaro testing the motor & pump on the trailer. I may be ready soon.

    I need to recarpet the Kachina real bad but it will have to wait.

    Here is the beginning of the restoration on my 1987 kachina. I am going through the whole boat from jet to wiring. Here is the dash. New guages,wiring,reverse control,steering bezel and soon to be steering wheel. The next step will be carpet tomorrow.

    Looks good 396. I'm just starting the same myself. Where do you get a wiring harness from?

    NICE! How do you keep it lookin good? Can you clear coat it?

    I have a polish that works like magic. You barely rub it and it shines like new money. As long as you maintain it, it will be easier to polish it.
