Valvoline 50 wt racing. loose clearances on olds.
Berk,
I had actually switched to the Syntech last year before rebuilding the Chevy, partly for better lubricating qualities and partly temperature resistance. I am staying there just because I am there and have no good reason to go back. The cost is unimportant to me as I only buy 10 Qts a year (2 crankcase fills a year, 1 in spring, 1 in fall before winterizing) The new clevite 77 bearings are nice and tight and I run about 25PSI hot idle, unknown at speed (still not broken in fully yet) I realize I am not running enough engine muscle or 5 to 10 min rips to heat my oil to a bad point, I just decided to add more cushion.

10w30 lucas for me. guys running that heavy oil better have some good oil temp before hittin it hard. bad on bearings with cold oil. we heat the oil to 130 degrees before we go to the ramp. drag application.
yes, engine runs 170-180 in no wake zone so it warms up good.
