Don't listen to the naysayers Ross, you've done more to advance this sport than anyone else, even if you've stumbled now and again. I spoke with everal SS owners in Burley that said they would not go to Texas because of Long Beach. Looks like all classes should be full.

"Ross why canÂ’t THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SPEEDBOAT CLUB do their own race series. Why does SCSC have to have APBA, IHBA or SSRA involved?"
    ColeTr2:
APBA is the "parent" organization which SCSC get's the following: insurance at a much better rate (more coverage for a lower premium), a set of national rules that govern competition, safety, etc. and a place to earn a "National points anda National or U.I.M. World Championship". Now SCSC could go out and get their own insurance but the added cost would make it out of reach for the average racer. Add: SCSC could re-write and copyright our own set of rules and re-name all the classes (as would have to be done by virtue of copyright infringement) but it seems an awful lot of money, time and effort when there still are 7-10 viable classes (in our region) of boats that wish to subscribe to APBA rules.
You see most of the racers do this for the love of the sport and competition. They spend their hard earned money doing something that intrinsically makes them happy. It's not that SCSC/RPM is looking for problems, there are enough of them to go around, rather the easiest way to do business is by working with APBA. If you know the ground rules as I have explained above going in you realize which battles to fight.
Now recently, (in the last 6-7 years) several of the classes based in West (SS/PS/Crackers/GN/K/etc.) decided to form themselves into "series" (ie;SSRS now SSRA, WPRA, Crackerbox Racing Series, GNRA, etc.) in an effort to grow their classes, create better competion, highten the visibility, showcase themselves at higher profile events, take advantage of T.V. ( I personally obtained the Speed Channel now on Outdoor Channel shows for these groups) and yes, prize money. As SCSC became an "incubator" for growth in many of these series it seems that occasionally problems erupt, call it "growing pains". So you see SCSC could do it themselves but we would have no racers as the cost would be prohibitive. Next, we, SCSC, look to foster growth within the various series through our premier events (Long Beach, & Bluewater) but we need the support of these groups at our non-premier events (Bakersfield, etc.) when we lose the support we lose money thus putting future event in jeopardy. It's a business (though we are a non-profit) we still rely on the support of the racers to survive.
Last, would SCSC like to have the K's, SSRA, etc. on and pay out prize money to all classes at Long Beach, absolutely but 1.) I don't have a corporate sponsor that is willing to front the money so consequently the classes that are invited to attend help SCSC by helping themselves. I too agree leave politics to the politicians. If you are a racer support your group, show up and support the event otherwise there may not be an event to show up to. For the fans, continue to support the events and sponsors and let them know you want more and appreciate it! Again, for those not going to another great event, CBBB, and wish to come and watch some great racing, Long Beach is going to be great and for a worthy cause to boot!

I would like to make it, but CBBB is calling my name.

SCSC runs APBA becasue APBA offers many "ITEMS" that others don't...One big word is QUALITY INSURANCE for the City of Long Beach and Drivers and Officials.
As far as I know the Super Stocks are invited....They will racing for APBA POINTS and A CHANCE to win a National High Point in a chance to be int eh APBA Hall of Champions.
Long Beach Marine Stadium is one of the finest bodies of RACING WATER in the WORLD.......Lake Ming being the finest!!!
Ross, the "Well Oil Team That IS CHAD HILL RACING" will be at Long Beach with our Formula Light.....We plan to beat more than 5 boats at Long Beach...But a 10th with the 15 boats that were at Chowchilla was OK with us!!!
I can assure FLAT BOTTOM FANS that they will see some good FLAT BOTTOM ACTION at Long Beach...Plus a bunch running that 80 MPH deal call nostalgia.....
Ross, you are having a CLASS BOAT SHOW CORRECT???

Thanks Ross, I can tell you have an up hill battle and youÂ’re doing it for the love of the sport. I enjoy the boat show! I love seeing all that beautiful hardware there. Maybe some of the boats from the show could do exhibition runs? IÂ’m looking forward to the 300 in Parker.
