I fianally had a chance to take my boat out, and again it ran bad, The hole shot was not to bad, but misfireing at the top end. I was only able to get 5200 rpms, I was running 5900 with holley 600 vaccum secondairies.
Here is what the plugs look like.
In this picture the back of the engine is on the right.

I noticed that the plugs in back are cleaner than the ones in front. What does it all mean ?
I put a vacuum gauge on

and at 3000 rpms I have 11 inches of vaccum. The power valves are 8.5.
In case you forgot I'm running a 10 to 1 427, with tunnel ram and 2 holley 6109 carbs.

were the plugs brand new? If not then put a new set in and go run the boat wide open and shut it down as quick as you can without letting it idle for a long time. Pull the plugs and look at the base of insulator. You should see a light tan ring. The position of the ring will tell you if that cylinder is running rich, lean or perfect.

what are you running for ignition??
Cyclone's right...after all the fuel problems you were having before, you probably have fouled the plugs. You had one carb giving you problems before, and I'd bet that's where the dark plugs came from. Get a new set. Didn't you say that before, you had hit 6000 with these carbs?
Also check your timing. No less that 36 with your set up, and premium gas.
I'll give you a call today.

If its banging and popping in the exhaust at the higher Rs, it is likely too much fuel. More fuel than you can burn, so it fires in the headers/exhaust system. What changes were made? same carbs???????.......MP

I made a wot throttle run, then ideld in (or tried to idle, it was chugging at this point)
I'm pretty sure the plugs were fouled Saturday. I had the plugs out before I ran it and they looked like good clean plugs.
I ran 3 short passes, and it got worse each time.
The carb that was giving me trouble, is now on the front. I switched them because only this carb had a threaded plug for a vaccum port.

I'm going to put the 850 back on

,new plugs, and see if it's me, or these carbs, that has a problem.

In my not so humble opinion those single top tunnel rams don't work worth a shit, don't put it on. The 6109's are awesome tunnel ram carbs, you just have something wierd going on but it can be fixed I'm sure. Has anyone ever modified those carbs or baseplates in any way from the way they came from the factory?

Are the floats in good shape i.e. no leaks that would keep them from floating. How much fuel pressure are you running?

First off ditch those autolites, they suck. Looking that the end of the threads looks like they got a lot of gas and could be fouled, you have the right heat range plugs in there too?
    A little something to ponder..............

Ron, just put new plugs back in and run it and see what happens. How hard can that be? That single TR top isn't going to work worth a damn. They have terrible fuel distribution problems. If you're not going to follow through with the Holleys, then put the single four intake back on and be done with it.

I've run Auto's forever, and never had any issues with them.
