Thread: "Racing" ticket possible solution

A while back, 2 jetboaters were running down the Pearl River in tandem. Boat 'B' [who had no speedo] was caculating his speed using his tach and the dpeedo from boat 'A'. As they got up to 60, they were spied by a member of the Pearl River Water Conservation Association river police. He thought they were racing, so he stopped them and issued them tickets. The drivers of both boats explained what they were doing, but the cop did not buy it at all - and was more than a little overbearing in his handling of the situation.
Both drivers knew they would fight the tickets, but they did not know how. Finally, driver 'A', after studying the rule book the PRWCA based the ticket on, came up with a plan, and made a few calls.
Every Sunday on Ross Barnett Resevoir, one of the local sailing clubs has an event for its members [usually the younger ones, and ones with smaller boats], and it is held in the same spot, close to the shore so friends and family members can easily observe.
The next Sunday as the sail boats are out tacking, jibing, battening down hatches, hoisting up landlubbers and other sailboat things, 8 power boats [5 jets, 2 ski nautiques, 1outboard picklefork] come out and park themselves in the middle of the activities. They then proceed to make runs in and out of the event - staying well away from the sailbots, but throwing large roostertails, and generally making their presence known.
One of the parents of the sailers gets a little upset, and calls the PRWCA, and tells them there are some rowdy boaters upsetting their event.
PRWCA immediately sent an officer to investigate - and as luck would have it, it was the same 'jack booted storm trooper' from the week before. As the officer gets to the scene, he recognizes the 2 boats from the week before and pulls up to them and asks what they are doing.
Driver of boat 'A' [black and gold 'James Bond' Glastron] esplains they are just hanging out, waiting for the Dock [local restaurant/bar] to open so they can get some lunch.
The officer asks them if they would mind moving off about a half mile, because they are right in the middle of the course the sailing club has set up for its weekly "regatta".
"Regatta, regatta - what is a regatta?", asks the driver of boat 'B' [21' day cruiser with twin turbo BBC and nitrous].
A 'regatta' explains the officer is a sailboat thingk, where the sailers compete in tacking/jibing manuevers against one another.
"You mean kind of like a race" ask driver 'A'.
The officer explained 'yes', it was kind of a race.
At which time driver of boat 'B' gave the officer 2 choices - first would be to start ticketing all 19 boats out there competing in the 'regatta' - showing the officer the particular relevant passages from the 'rule' book. Or choice 2, would be tear up the tickets from the previous Sunday.
    The tickets were "Voided".
This remedy won't work everywhere [and the PRWCA is sopposed to be amending its laws] but it might be an out for others out there who are governed by similar laws.
