    my GMC wasn't a truck.. it was a '97 safari mini van, the tranny ended up costing me $2300 to have to completely rebuilt. i checked everywhere and that was the best price i could get. i sold the van a few years ago and it was the last GMC i owned.

    Check the fluid level and condition. If its not black and doesnt smell burnt you probably can get by with just putting a valve body in it. A valve in the valve body sticks in the bore causing the tcc slip speed to be high turning on the ses lite on and setting the code. P1870. I would pull the pan and if its clean no metal or debris put a valve body in.
