removing painted on reg numbers

whats the best way to remove painted on regestration numbers from clearcoat?

i just removed some last night.......easy-off oven cleaner,,taped it off,,sprayed it on,let it sit for like 3 minutes,,it wiped right off,,sometimes two coats are needed,afterwards rub and polish out as needed...

Be careful sometime takes off the clear too.
