Thread: Jacketed header question

On a water jacketed header such as lightning for example, how does the cooling work? My understanding is water enters the bottom of the primaries and fills up the cavity between the pipes. If there isn't an outlet on them or bleed off up top somewhere wouldn't air pockets form and create hot spots or the water just sit in there and boil? Logs have a inlet and outlet so I know how they work.

They work the same as log manifolds, inlets at each primary and dump at the collectors with the standard exit. You can order dry, per say, that runs a double wall collector to the transom and dumps through small holes on the inside of the pipe at the very tip.

Of all the pictures I have seen, I haven't noticed any dumps at the collectors. This was what had me wondering.

they dump right into the collectors and mix with the exhaust where the primaries meet the collector
