Thread: Flat versus radiused keel

    ok school me... lets hear your opinions on flat and radiused
    keels.

    Round keel is better. At what speed it becomes superior is unknown to me, depends on hull design. I spoke to Jeff Bennett at length about this before I had him blueprint my boat, as my hull came with the delta pad. It was decided that at my power output I would see better performance with a round keel, so I had him change it.

    Our newer style keel for high HP boats has a even deeper radius in the keel. We're not positive this works better on the boats with lower power but it has proven to work better on boats with big power and seems to eliminate the need for the extra layer or "spoon" used in the past.

    Maybe a bit of a different application than what you were asking about, but another good example of the power of building in aluminum. That type of change is very easy to make boat to boat if need be, no new mold required
