Just wondering if these heads are a good stock design. I want my BBC to rev to 6K RPM. I plan to install a COMP 280H cam. Intake is a torker 2. Casting # 353049. Saw on Mortec.com that these are 122cc chamber, and 255/119cc ports. Can any body translate these #s for me?
    Thanks!

Thanks!I have the exact same number 049 heads. These are the large ovals. I run them hard, and they take the abuse! I can get close to 6K out of a stock valve job and my Erson cam.
I am taking mine off this Winter to port and polish the pieces. Mondello Racing is going to help me with my efforts.

The cyl.hds. are early large oval ports. With good port work these heads easily flow 300-325
c.f.m.@ 28" H2O @ .700" lift ie. roller cam. With the cam you refered to 400/500 HP is possable with the right parts and tune.

Those heads will flow well with pot job and manifold matching. If you are going to have them off then you might consider changing the valve out. The heads come with 2.06 int. and I believe 1.76 exh. On EBAY you can usually pick up a set of S.S. valves for $100+-. They are 2.19 int. and 1.88 exh. this will make a considerable difference in your flow #'s across the board. I believe it will cost you $350 to $400 to have them installed with a minor port and valve job.

Well, I think one more question needs to be answered.
Everyone is saying, "yes" these heads will be fine to 6000 r's.
They are if you're "BBC" is a 454 or 502. Which is what everyone is assuming.
If you have a 540 or larger, than NO, these heads would not be a good head to spin 6000r's with, in my opinion.
On a 540 I would go with 320cc Chevy rectangles or Merlin 310cc large ovals.
    Just a clarification

Thanks Dave F, the motor is a 454, not sure yet of the bore, I do know that the motor was rebuilt before purchasing. I would like to run a higher compression ratio, like 11:1. Will Do I need to buy some aluminum heads to do that, or will these heads be okay, I will be running the boat at Elsinore and at the colorado river.

If you want 11:1 than you need atleast 94 octane.
We have Sunoco Ultra 94 here on the east coast.
With an aluminum head and 11:1 you would be able to get away with 93 octane and the timing cut a little.
My suggestion however would be to stay under 10:1 out in CO. I think you guys can only get 91 right?

actually, I can get 100 at the pump here at one station. It is pricey($4.50/gallon) but I dont want to have to mix gas.

What do you intend to use the boat for? Why 11:1? What is 11:1 going to do for you now, that 10.5:1 isn't?
    Just curious?
