well I know if you leave your drive in forward and then turn motor over till prop starts to move., then mark front pulley and if it takes 1 1/2 times to turn motor over completely for prop to go 1 revolution that means you have 1.5 gears and you can figure the same for 1.26 or 1.30, these may be harder cuzz they are closer together
This is the opposite of your other post. This one is correct, and the same thing I stated in my last post. However as I stated, with the XZ drive he only has the option of 1.50 or 1.36 ratio. The difference is 1 1/2 (for 1.50:1) or approx. 1 1/3 (for 1.36:1) engine revolution per one prop revolution. The more times you rotate the engine the easier it is to tell the difference between the two ratios.

The prop rotates slower than the engine. If you rotate the engine one time the prop will rotate .666 (11/16 of a full rotation) times for 1.50:1 and .735 (just under 3/4 of a full rotation) times for 1.36:1. That is why you want to rotate it 10 times to get more accurate.
10 times at the engine for a 1.50:1 is 6.66 times at the prop and 7.35 times for a 1.36:1. Easier to tell the difference.
The XZ only comes in a 1.50:1 and 1.36:1 ratio.
I had always thought it was the prop that turned faster then the motor
Why does this effect the prop choice so much going from a 1.36 to 1.50.?

Is it because the amount of torque the motor makes at higher rpm's?
    I used to run a 28" while running 1.50 and now spin a 22" using 1.36's

The engine spins faster than the prop....
You answered your own question! The 1.50 spins slower (propshaft) than the 1.36, that is why you can't pull as large a prop with a 1.36 as you can with the 1.50.

    Ok i'm catching on.
